My country is grieving. They say our health systems have collapsed. Luck will decide who is to live, not medication or your medical history. We have lost many lives and are scared to loose more. But, we are fighting. As history has proven, we will come out of it victorious and stronger. We are a nation of 140 crore people who are in this together. Thats our strength not weaknesses. Every life matters and thus every struggle is counted for. Trust the soldiers in those white coats. They are not even obligated to put their lives at risk and die for the country just like armed soldiers on the borders. Still they are choosing to do way more than asked for. Let's play our part and help our country heal.

For every post with tricolor flag stack and #breathindiastack in it, @bookbird.ind will donate Rs 50/- to @ish.aani30 (Jaipur based foundation that supplies food for Covid families outside major hospitals).

Learning about other cultures and their histories, has always been fascinating to me. So, in this process to learn about different cultures, I have read few books from different countries. And I want to read more. I hope I will find more books to read [which I haven't read already] through this post.

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers. I am feeling much better now. It was a much needed break. I have finished reading "চাঁদের পাহাড়"। Here's my feelings about the book

"তুমি সেই দলের মানুষ, সারা আকাশ যাদের ঘরের ছাদ, সারা পৃথিবী যাদের পায়ে চলার পথ। আশীর্বাদ কোরো তোমার মহারণ্যের নির্জন সমাধি থেকে, যেন তোমার মতো হতে পারি জীবনে, অমনি সুখ-দুঃখে নিস্পৃহ, অমনি নির্ভীক। বিদায়! বন্ধু আত্তিলিও গাত্তি! অনেক জন্মের বন্ধু ছিলে তুমি। তোমরা সবাই মিলে শিখিয়েছ চীন দেশের সেই প্রাচীন ছড়াটি কত সত্য— ছাদের আলসের দিব্যি চৌরস একখানা টালি হয়ে অনড় অবস্থায় সুখে-স্বচ্ছন্দে থাকার চেয়ে স্ফটিক প্রস্তর হয়ে ভেঙে যাওয়া অনেক ভালো, অনেক ভালো, অনেক ভালো। "

বাঙালী অজ পাড়াগাঁয়ের ছেলে শঙ্কর পাড়ি দিল সুদুর পূর্ব-আফ্রিকায় । ইউগান্ডা রেলওয়ের নতুন লাইন তৈরী হচ্ছিল সেখানে চাকরী পেয়ে গেল । ডিয়েগো আলভারেজ নামে দুর্ধর্ষ এক পর্তুগীজ অভিচারীর জীবন সে সেবা করে বাচিয়ে তোলে। শঙ্কর তার সাথে মহাদুর্গম রিখটারস্ভেল্ড পর্বতে অজ্ঞাত এক হীরের খনির সন্ধানে যায়।

আফ্রিকার জংগলের গা ছমছমে বর্ণনা। কখনো সিংহ কখনো বা ব্লাক মামবা, আছে অজগর সাপ বা কখনো বা অজানা বুনিপের ভয়। পর্যটকেরা যারা নাম দিয়েছিলেন চাঁদের পাহাড় সেই রিখটারস্ভেল্ড পর্বতে কি শঙ্কর আর আলভারেজ হীরের খনি পেয়েছিল নাকি শুধুই মরিচিকা? বুনিপের সাথে কি
শঙ্করের দেখা হয়েছিল নাকি আফ্রিকান অঞ্চলের লোককথার কোন পশু কেবল তা?

ভাবতে বেশ অবাক লাগে যে কোন রকম বিদেশি গল্পের ছায়া অবলম্বন না করে আফ্রিকার এই রোমাঞ্চকর অভিজ্ঞতার গল্প কিভাবে লিখেছেন লেখক?

কিশোরদের জন্য লিখা লেখকের প্রথম বই এইটি। প্রিয় লেখকের এই বইয়ের রিভিউ লিখার যোগ্যতা বা ইচ্ছা কোনটায় নেই। বাংলা সাহিত্যে এর থেকে ভাল কোন এডভেঞ্চার উপন্যাস আছে কিনা আমার সন্দেহ আছে?

বইটি না পড়ে থাকলে আজই পড়ে ফেলুন পচতাবেন না।

৫ তারা কারন এর বেশি দেওয়া যায় না।

Happy Saturday!! I’m doing another stack challenge! And this one has been fun. Personally, I find it a challenge to make stack pictures interesting, but I tried something (idk what I’ve done here 😂)

Book name: I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up For Education And Was Shot By the Taliban

I regret not taking up Malala's memoir sooner, but I feel like the sensitivity needed to peruse a story like hers need time to develop which I'm afraid I did not have when this book was released.

This was an emotional book for me. I remember being horrified when I first heard about this young girl, who was essentially a child, being shot by the Taliban because of her campaign for girls' education. Since then, Malala had been an inspiring figure for many across the world, but reading this book made me understand that she is so much more than the girl who stood up to militants.

The memoir starts with Malala describing her childhood, how her parents doted on her, and inspired her to become the best version of herself. She talked about silly things like sibling rivalry and being competitive at school, and at the same time also pointed out why she didn't feel the necessity to cover herself with a burkha. Long before the Taliban took notice of her, she started fighting for her rights to be educated by going to school despite a curfew and hiding her books underneath her clothes. I was filled with awe at the bravery she started showing at a very young age. And then this bravado continued in the aftermath of the shooting. After her family settled in Birmingham, she continued to long for her life in Pakistan, despite all the trauma it caused her. I thought that was incredible, especially when I see most expatriates being charmed by the conveniences of the Western world and forgetting about their motherland.

She wrote this book with a lot of love. Love for Pakistan, her family and her Pashtun lineage. Reading this book made me realise that I have taken a lot of privileges for granted, like the right to be seen as an equal in society and the right to get an education. Despite all the struggles Pakistan is going through, it is heartwarming to see that Malala continues to love her country and wishes it to be a place where everyone can live peacefully. I think at a time like this, it would do us a lot of good to have optimism like this.

#snackandpaperback Challenge!

I was just randomly clicking pictures yesterday for my bookstagram and my mom came rushing in with two bowls in her hands, and she was like 'look what i have for you, use it as your props'....She always comes up with weird ideas but this was by far the best! All credit goes to my mum because this shot came out perfectly! 💙

Q: what's your favorite ice cream flavour? strawberry and chocolate are my all time favorite! 😋
