To kick off Chicago Marathon weekend, I spoke on the main stage on the topics of Writers Who Run. Thanks to @readandruntours, this was the first time for a panel like this, inspired by @malissaonthemove’s interview series. I had a blast speaking with my fellow panelists about the intersection of marathon running and book writing. Best of luck to all the runners out there this weekend. We love running, but we also celebrate Chicago using movement and stories in so many ways. When I founded Read & Run Chicago in 2021, we had a single program: the book-themed guided run where stories take place followed by author Q&As, book sales, and more—the original @readandruntours format I developed. Five years later, we still host those events—here we call them signature events!—but we also made room for cyclists to join, volunteer across the city, open Little Free Libraries, bring Chicagoans together for reading nights, book swaps, and more, support a team of first-time marathoners, and along the way promote and support libraries, indie bookstores, and other small businesses.
