Thanks to Kristin @cozy.coffee.reads, I saw that Caitlin @readingonfordearlife is doing a book stack challenge in honor of her son who has Soto’s syndrome. This is a disorder caused by a mutation or deletion in the NSD1 gene on chromosome 5, and it is characterized by excessive physical growth during the first years of life. Individuals with Soto’s Syndrome often are taller and have larger head sizes than is typical for their age. The condition can also be accompanied by delays in cognitive function, speech, and social development.

For every purple and yellow stack with the #sotosyndromestack hashtag by September 30, Caitlin will donate $2 (up to $100) to @sotossyndrome .

It was a lot harder than I expected to find books that matched my colors…I had to be a little less strict as far as what I considered a match. 🤣

💜𝕊𝕋𝔸ℂ𝕂 𝔽𝕆ℝ 𝔸 ℂ𝔸𝕌𝕊𝔼💜

Last week would have been my dad’s 99th birthday. I lost him when I was 24 — and he was 67 — to pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest forms of cancer, in part because it is often advanced by the time it is diagnosed. My dad lived only 4 months from the time of his diagnosis. Sadly, over the past 30 years, I’ve met many other people who have lost parents and siblings to this terrible disease.

In memory of my dad, I created the #purplestackforpancreaticcancer which I’ve posted *almost* every year that I’ve been on bookstagram. For every purple stack with this tag between now and July 15, I will donate $1 to @lustgartenfdn — which is working hard on pancreatic cancer research. I’ll also do an extra $5 for every 10 stacks. Let’s help beat this thing.

⭐️ As mothers, the reality is that even though so many of us are grateful to be moms and we would do anything for our children, we give up a part of ourselves. Motherhood asks. Motherhood takes. Motherhood spits us right back out. The part of us that once had time, the part that felt good in her own skin, the part that was ready to take on the entire world at the drop of a hat - we struggle not to lose that person to the endless call of being a mom.

We are now constantly reminding ourselves and each other that we STILL ARE that beautiful person we used to know. Even if we are trying to find magical extra time for our personal hobbies, even if our bodies look and feel different, even if our houses are messy and the sink is full of dishes.

Women have to work harder to shine past the label of “being a mom”, but ultimately being a mom is part of our DNA, and most of the time, it’s the most beautiful part of who we are as women. But it’s not ALL we are. I am STILL BEAUTIFUL, STILL CONFIDENT, STILL ME.

Friday Fuels Festive Feelings… 🙃 On this Friday, I’m giving you a stack of books beginning with F… I’ve read all of these. Any favorites here? My top pick from this pile is Fun For the Whole Family.

What are your weekend plans? We’re expecting arctic cold temps, so I suspect I’ll be indoors… I’ll finish up The Good Part by Sophie Cousens…not sure what’s next on the reading front. Also will keep going on my WIP — I’m on chapter twenty-one of the first draft. Also suspect there will be time spent streaming season 2 of The Traitors US.

Belladonna - Book review - Pub 2022 - 403 pages
Fantasy

This story is about Signa Farrow - She sees ghosts, spirits and can see death in every shadow, why? ..Because death is connected to her in a way that is intense and intriguing. She feels him lurking, watching and then her touch is lethal, what is happening?

I am obsessed with this book. I find ghosts, spirits, and a talking death character so utterly compelling to read about. My favourite fantasy concept.

The story line was easy to grasp, not overly complex like some fantasy books. It really is like the everyday mixed in with the extraordinary, again, love that.

If you like a murder to solve, a mystery, but don't normally read fantasy, treat yourself to this one.

Loved returning to this every chance I had, life got in the way, but this is why I read, for books like this!
