I am scared of changes. They make me anxious. The fear of newness makes me feel I am unprepared and I won't be able to deal with it. It makes me feel replaceable, insignificant. But it's all in the head, isn't it?

No matter how often and how deliberately I tell myself that it's okay CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT, it still makes me want to maintain the status quo. I keep stalling it. Almost as if I am lying to myself. Trying to fool myself into believing things i don't want to believe or accept.

Every year during this time, the air, the temperature, the smell makes me feel nostalgic. It reminds me of all the autumns I have seen till now, like a fast tracked movie. And within a few seconds, I am teleported to my reality.

Idk what exactly prompted me? Maybe this feeling of adding another memory to my nostalgia? That I have decided to read the books my beloved friends have given me..

And with this, I am telling myself again: Fall is proof that change is good"

I met Vaish back in 2023 on a Saturday morning in @hsrreads . The first day it had started. I remember being really nervous cuz I had gone alone and wanted to meet readers hoping I would make a friend. I remember going upto her at the end of the reading session cuz she was reading Happy Place by Emily Henry and I wanted to read it😂 she let me borrow it later. So I took the book and also got a friend along with it. Safe to say I found my happy place. For life 🥹

It’s been 4 years since we met that day and I don’t think I can explain exactly what she means to me. But yes, she’s someone I know I can call up at 1 am(I have and there were tears involved lol), my go to elder sister, my photobooth partner, the one I text whenever I have something on my mind or vc to ask if my outfit was fine cuz I was going on a date lol, my coffee/reading date partner, my book best friend and my fav neighbour(literally 200mts away).

She’s someone who would go to lengths for you if you’re her friend, be there for you even before you realise you needed it. There’s this side of her only a few know and I’m so grateful I’ve gotten to see it every day the last 4 years

There’s so much more I could write here but I just want to say I love you so much and I’m so happy I get to call you one of my fav people. I know we are in different cities now but we’ll make this work. The only long distance I would ever do. Happy birthday Vaish💖

Okay, I really didn’t need another book… but here we are.

I bought one more book after watching a book haul & honestly, book hauls are SO dangerous for the wallet but so good for the soul.

You discover so many books that other people are reading & suddenly your TBR has a mind of its own.

Not mad about it though.

Also look at the cover of this book!!!! So so so intriguing & gorgeous!!!!

Yesteryear by @caroclaireburke is a painstakingly remarkable read. In Burke's debut novel we meet Natalie Heller Mills, a tradwife influencer with 8 million followers, living the perfectly curated 'pioneer-farm life' in Idaho with her husband Caleb and their numerous kids (I lost count after 4 😅), documenting every bit of it online.

She's the kind of woman who's been conditioned to believe anyone unconventional is either a bitch or not a "real" Christian. One fine morning, her producer, Shannon, slaps her with an assault accusation. We see the PR machine kicks in, and just like that, like stubbing your foot and losing all sense of the world for a second, except this one is for a long time where Natalie loses herself to wake up in 1855. No phones, no electricity, no modernity left in the farmhouse or in her. She hates every second of it and waits desperately for a sign that'll pull her back to the present.

I can't say I liked it or disliked it reading this book, but I can tell you it cannot be missed. I did not find myself being fond of any character. I have winced at the way Natalie thinks, and still found myself pitying her and everyone tangled up in her life. The book highlights the dark side of influencer culture and the performance of "traditional" womanhood.

Feminism, kids on social media, consent, white supremacy, marriage, postpartum, the romanticizing of motherhood, accountability (or the lack of it), assault, autonomy, power, money, and what it means to be a woman in America — this book touches all of it, and somehow doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to. You'll come out of it triggered, unsettled, and in tears (keep tissues handy). Just don't expect the twist to play out exactly how you'd guess.

The most heavy chapter for me was towards the end! Read it to know it.

One tip: read it on Kindle. The paperback font is an eye sore, a brutal one.
