Got a first look inside @bookbarto and it’s exactly the kind of place Toronto needs right now. 📚🍸

Located at:

📍 600 Markham St., Toronto, Ontario

Book Bar is a new space dedicated to the connective power of books, hospitality, and conversation. Part bookstore, part bar, part gathering place, it’s designed for people who love to learn, discuss, discover, and connect.

One of my favourite parts of the evening was simply seeing people gather. Conversations flowing between bookshelves, new connections being made, and a room full of people brought together by a shared love of stories and ideas.

A huge thank you to @bookbarto for having me, and so lovely meeting @bookishbeti , @thisstoryaintover , @jaimefok , and @reading.things along the way. ✨

Grand opening is this weekend so be sure to check it out. Stay tuned for a special IN THE ROOM feature coming soon. 👀🎙️

“the main character and the hero, they are not the same” 😭❤️‍🩹😭❤️‍🩹😭❤️‍🩹😭❤️‍🩹

my first book of 2026 being a 5🌟 read has really set the tone for this year!

fredrik backman and I have a love/hate relationship. anxious people and beartown? didn’t like 😔 a man called ove? LOVED 🫶🏼 so I was very glad to have enjoyed this one as much as I did. regardless of my feelings towards some of backman’s work, he is a phenomenal writer and storyteller, there’s no denying that; however, sometimes the way his books are written and the plot just don’t do it for me. he has a very distinct writing style.

giving backman another shot, I knew I wanted to listen to his latest book. sometimes I find that audiobook narrators can bring a story and characters to life better than myself imagining every nuance, tone, and piece of dialogue. I’m so happy I did because the audiobook was great!

backman’s stories are always character driven and this one was no different. I grew to love these characters immensely. a telltale sign of an amazing novel is when you feel as if you know the characters personally, you feel apart of their story, you don’t want it to end, and you miss them when it’s over ❤️‍🩹 backman is a master at writing real, raw, and human stories. you are given no choice but to root for these people.

tagged are some of MY FRIENDS who convinced me, personally, or through their ratings and reviews to pick this one up and give it a try 💙
