this was my first ever @carissabroadbentbooks book and it did not disappoint! i actually didn’t realise that this was the fifth book in the series but the way it was written, everything was explained perfectly! the world building was incredible.

we follow our divine warrior, kyrene and our vampire prince, septimus. kyrene is probably one of my favourite female characters i’ve read about. she’s fierce, full of rage & unapologetically herself! septimus, septimus, septimus!! the vampire of all vampires. i am OBSESSED with him. he was snarky, a survivalist & sooo cunning!

a very special mention to zefiah, the sword that kyrene wields throughout this book! her sarcastic nature was one of my favourite parts of this book. zefiah was entertaining, had a slightly motherly touch whilst also being powerful!

i need the next book like immediately because the last 10% was PAIN. also, im definitely going to read the first four books very soon!! i would most definitely recommend going in blind because it enhances the reading experience!

thank you so much to @bookbreakuk for sending me this gorgeous proof copy 💜

dissection of a murder 👀🩸👩🏽‍⚖️

4.5☆

*ad/pr/gifted*

what a phenomenal debut legal thriller this was! the level of authenticity and realism in this book was incredible & you could really see that @jomurraywrites knew exactly what she was taking about!

the premise of this book is a courtroom thriller in which junior barrister, leila reynolds, is specifically requested to take on her first murder case- the murder of a highly successful and respected judge, anton smythe.

we follow leila as she faces the pressure of it being her first ever murder trial paired with the shocking revelation that the prosecutor is none other than her talented & ruthless husband, julian. he’s the best at what he does & he taught her everything she knows…

leila is a compelling protagonist- intelligent, flawed and constantly second guessing both the people around her & herself which subsequently makes the reader do the same! i absolutely love the way jo murray wrote her character 🖤

i have been fascinated with true crime & the legal system for so many years so this book was just incredible. it made me feel like i was right there in the courtroom alongside all the characters. i finished this book in a couple of sittings, i just couldn’t put it down! 👀

i can see this being one of the top thrillers of 2026 so make sure you grab a copy and read this unputdownable, highly addictive & twisted thriller! thank you so much to @bookbreakuk for sending me a copy of this book! ❤️
