#mysummervibe tag + an ode to summer, monsoons, and friendships by me 🫶🏽✨

— i must confess, i long for the monsoon; when the smell of petrichor mingles with the flowers in my neighbour’s garden, i rejoice! the monsoon can be rageful, but she can also bring love. i’m drinking hot chai while gossiping in the balcony, watching snails rasp on the leaves of my mother’s potted plants, collecting drops of rain in the palm i’ve stretch outside my umbrella; when the thunder claps and lightning strikes, i’m suddenly 4 years-old again, cocooned beside my parents, and i think they silently thank the rains for bringing their daughter back to them.

— the comfort i find in the monsoon results from the torrid summer weather, as i wouldn’t cherish the rains and her grey skies without the humidity and brightness of summer. i disliked summer because of the sweat and the heat and the need to escape, but having spent two summers away from home, i must admit that i’ve missed it greatly. summers back home mean going out to run chores and stopping by the road-side stalls to drink tender coconut water. it means cold showers and mango lassi to cool mind and body. it means laying on the floor next to my mama while we eat chikoo ice-cream. it means fruit juices trickling down my arm and staining my nightdress as i bite into it. it means appreciating the luxuries i have because so many don’t.

— i look at my home away from india, away from my family, where i’ll find myself for the rest of the summer, and i find love there. it’s in my friends who revel in my oddities, who eat the goods i bake, and who kiss my head every chance they get. we’re all whimsy and curious, with arms locked together, diving head-first into a life we’re experiencing for the first time; we’re babies ripping at our swaddlings because of all the love we have to give to the world. my friends are my home in my home away from my family, and i cherish summer for their sake.

lastly, please stay updated on the genoc*de taking place in p🍉lestine. if you are unable to donate, engage with posts so they get to people who can!!

2022 reading wrap-up📚 + #dearreader tag

⚜ did you complete your 2022 reading goal?
~ yes 🎉! my goal for the year was 50 books, and (thanks to my #12bookstillxmas challenge) i was able to reach it. (crazy to think i've read 12 books in a month when in 2021 I've only read 5 books in the whole year)

(pictured: some of the physical books i've read this year + annotated the hell out of)

⚜ what is your 2023 reading goal?
~ i'm feeling brave, so i'm setting it to 120 books! (however deep down i hope I can read 150 but that feels a bit too much pressure)

⚜ what books do you want to read in 2023?
• ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas
• Babel by R. F. Kuang
• Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
• Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
• Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi
• The Secret History by Donna Tartt
& many more.

⚜ any five star predictions? ✨️
~ all the books mentioned above! i've heard so many positive things about them, I'm sure they'll be very good reads.

⚜ books you want to reread?
~ during autumn i want to reread 'The Nature of Witches' by Rachel Griffin because it's the perfect read for the season.
& i want to give the Throne of Glass series another try because when i read it (not all of it, only 4 books) a few years ago i didn't like it, but maybe I've missed something?

⚜ new year’s resolution? 🎇
~ read all the books I own before buying new ones (will be hard, but I'm running out of shelf space)
~ diversify my reading habits (try different genres/authors)
~ get out of my comfort zone more.

thank you so much @thestarryscorpio for the tag. i've tagged a few lovely people to do this but don't feel pressured! 🫶🏻

💫QOTD: Have you completed your reading challenge for the year? 💫

Lost my job and visa in Spain, bringing me back to my childhood home with mom and dad. Instead of sitting on my ass and moping, I decided to pursue another dream of mine: in person Author events. I learned about craft fairs when I was sent home unexpectedly over the summer. I decided to go for it. After doing my fourth craft fair I am just bewildered at where these last months have taken me. Progress has been made with my writing business and also got to explore places around my home that I never got the chance to visit and connect with. It’s been a great experience returning to my roots and spreading my dream and joy of reading and writing to New Jersey. All the people who decided to stop by my booth and chat with me have been so supportive of my writing journey. Can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
