Madonna in a Fur Coat 🖤

Genre: Literary Fiction / Classic Lit
Rating: 4 stars
Favourite quote: “For me, love is something else entirely. It’s beyond all logic and impossible to describe or define. It’s one thing to like someone. To be consumed, body and soul, by desire is quite another. That’s what love is to me, desire that’s all consuming. Desire that’s impossible to resist.”

Oh I loved this one. It was somewhat relatable in a few ways (and not in a good way).

What makes this novel so affecting is its understanding of how profoundly our lives can be shaped by misunderstandings, missed opportunities and the things left unsaid. Ali captures the particular cruelty of hindsight, the realisation that what we once interpreted as rejection, indifference or abandonment may have been something entirely different. Sometimes, the tragedy lies not only in what we lose, but in what we believe about that loss.

Written with tenderness and psychological insight, the novel also offers a subtle critique of a society that values appearances, conformity and social standing over emotional depth. Raif’s tragedy is not merely personal. it is also the tragedy of a man who learns to make himself smaller in a world that never attempts to understand him.

And perhaps that’s what stayed with me most, the idea that an entire life can exist beneath an ordinary face, that one encounter can alter the course of our existence, and that some losses become inseparable from the people we eventually turn into.

What did I learn whilst reading this one?
1. You can be surrounded by people and still be profoundly lonely.
2. We sometimes fall in love with the idea of someone before we know them.
3. Love can change your life, even if it doesn’t last.
4. Silence and assumptions can destroy things that might otherwise have survived (this is where I heavily related to the story).

But… yea. What a book. I read this in one sitting and absolutely recommend it!

Recently. 🍂☕️📖🤎🧺

We’re 10 days into October and I’ve already read 3 books, like… who do I think I am?! (we’re so back) 😮‍💨. No literacy crisis here. 🙂‍↕️✋🏼

My days have been quiet in the countryside, just how I like it. 🤎

Slow living and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🍂☕️

Currently making homemade beef stew in the slow cooker, fresh coffee in hand, curled up on the sofa and ready to finish my reread of Credence. Also counting down the days until Escape Me by @tahereh is released on Tuesday! I might pop into Waterstones to see if they have any in the stockrooms tomorrow 🥹😂.

The last week or so in a few photos.

Also dyed my hair a dark cherry colour and I’m a little bit in love 🍒. Will be posting reviews this week 🥹.

Current reads: Credence and Divine Rivals (both rereads). You couldn’t get two more different books 😂.

Just a girl who appreciates her classics. 🕯️

I’m posting this because I recently finished my reread of Stoner by John Williams, and after finishing it for the third time, it’s still up there with one of my favourites (there’s a reason it’s so popular). You could argue that it’s boring but for me personally, I learn something new with each reread whether it’s about myself, people around me or the world in general. It’s one of those books that no matter what genre you read, you should read this one at least once in your life.

Another reason I posted this is because in two weeks I’ll be starting my reread of The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky except this time I’ll be reading it in Russian. Those who have been following me for a while or know me in general will know I’ve been wanting to do this for some time now. Yes I speak Russian but learning to read actual Russian literature in Russian have proven to be a lot more difficult for me personally so in a way I’m really looking forward to it but it’ll also be a challenge for me too. I’m mainly doing this because I’m curious to see the difference between the English and Russian translations/contexts etc.

Anyway, wish me luck. I might need it 😂🥰🖤.

My very over ambitious autumn and winter tbr 🍂☕️✨

It’ll be a miracle if I get through all of this in the next two seasons but I’ll be pretty impressed with myself if I manage it. I should probably add that a couple of these are rereads because I can’t go through autumn without reading divine rivals, ruthless vows and before we were strangers 🥹.

I also just finished my reread of the acotar series and it felt so nostalgic, I absolutely flew through them and had the best time, I felt like I appreciated them more 5 years after previously reading them too 🖤.

Now I’m about to read night shade, I tried reading this a couple of months ago but then dnf’d it because I figured it’s a book best read during the autumn season 🍂.

Anyways, I’m waffling. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend .✨

Last few weeks in the life photo dump and a lil reading update. ✨

So I recently finished Lost & Found by Tarah Dewitt and absolutely loved it! I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. It took me two weeks to read due to being on back to back vacations but I’m home for the foreseeable and ready to get back into a proper reading routine 🤍.

Now I’ve just started my reread of ACOTAR (currently on 100 pages) it’s my first time reading it in like 6/7 years so it feels weird but also nostalgic? I’m flying through it just like I did the first time, I think I’m actually appreciating it more the second time too. I’ll be rereading acotar, reading the last three books from the Throne of Glass series then will be reading Crescent City for the first time so wish me luck 🫪.

Also verrrrry happy premier league football is back. Really wanted to laugh at Spurs getting slimed by Brentford but I can’t because I’m a Man United supporter and I just know they’re going to put us THROUGH it this szn lmao 😭.

Anyways, hope you are all doing well as can be 🥰.

Unwanted by Mia Sheridan

Genre: Romance / Mystery
Rating: 4.5 stars
Favourite quote: “He’d never seen anything prettier. Not even the almost night when the colours of the bleeding sun filled the sky and came down to kiss the earth.

One thing about me, I’ll read just about anything Mia Sheridan writes. She’s the queen of romance in my opinion and writes it so effortlessly.

Mia has a way with words that feels almost too fluid (in the best way). Her writing is lyrical, atmospheric and deeply emotive, weaving tenderness through even the most painful moments. There’s something about the way she writes emotion that makes it seep beneath your skin, quiet, aching, raw, and incredibly human. I found myself completely absorbed in her words, savouring the writing just as much as the story itself.

And then there was Harper and Jak. 🖤

I absolutely loved the chemistry between these two. It never felt forced or manufactured, it was natural, instinctive and beautifully understated. The connection between them grew in a way that felt believable, like something that simply existed between them before either of them fully understood what it meant. Their conversations, their quiet moments, the tension, the tenderness, all of it had this effortless pull that kept drawing me further into their story. Jak was a tortured soul too and I love that.

There’s something so special about a romance where you can feel the connection rather than being repeatedly told it’s there, and Harper and Jak gave me exactly that.

Unwanted is a story of hurt, healing, vulnerability and finding something beautiful in the places you least expect it. It’s emotional without feeling contrived, romantic without losing its depth, and filled with the kind of writing that makes you want to underline entire pages.

The setting in this novel was just stunning too. Located in the brutal winter backcountry of Helena Springs in Montana. It was so descriptive it almost felt like I was there, snowed in at the cabin 🥹.

P.s. A love like this please, thanks. 🖤
