I had the pleasure of joining forces with some amazing organizations and individuals to bring education, advocacy, and valuable community resources directly to the people we serve.

These three hours were packed with meaningful conversations, practical education, advocacy, and connections to resources designed to support healthier individuals and stronger communities.

If we want to improve healthcare outcomes and the overall health of our communities, we have to be willing to show up, educate, advocate, and have the hard conversations.

Healthcare doesn’t just happen in hospitals and clinics. It happens in our communities, and that’s where the work begins.

Thank you to Luella High School in McDonough, GA for allowing us to use the space.

Thank you to all of the panelists who shared their time and expertise.

And a special thank you to the following because we survived all of the behind the scenes coordination to see the event through.

Sasha Ottey of PCOS Challenge: The National Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association

Maya Eady McCarthy, MD, MEd, FAAP of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Katherine Sylvester PT, DPT of Operation Mist

And on the last day of #worldbreastfeedingweek your Auntie Doula became a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist! 🎉🤱🏽

Having breastfed one of my kiddos and exclusively pumped with another, nursing has been an important part of my life. I’m excited to be equipped with not only lived experiences but the education and training to assist families who have breastfeeding goals of their own!

Shout out to @readysetpushinc for the training and mentorship!

Join us for Part Three of the HMHBGA Nurture ATL: Community Lactation Education Series! 💜🧡

✨ Breastfeeding Support for NICU Families
🗓 May 12
⏰ 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
💻 Virtual

This compassionate, community-centered workshop is for perinatal professionals AND breastfeeding families navigating the NICU journey. Together, we’ll explore how to establish and maintain breastmilk feeding routines, discuss alternative feeding options, and share practical, hands-on strategies to support lactating parents during this critical time. You’ll leave feeling empowered, connected, and better prepared to support NICU families every step of the way.

🌍 About Nurture ATL:
This project provides culturally relevant training for breastfeeding and lactation professionals serving Black and Brown families across Georgia. Funded by Project HOPE, a global health and humanitarian organization advancing health equity and strengthening the frontline health workforce.

🎤 Facilitated by:
Kiana Ayers, RN, IBCLC, LCCE (@readysetpushinc )— nurse, lactation consultant, childbirth educator, and founder of Ready Set Push Inc. With over 20 years of nursing experience and a decade in prenatal and postpartum education, Kiana brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to supporting families. And this mama is doing fine! She was put in contact with her provider, and given instructions to be monitored appropriately. She also left the event with a BP machine to use at home!

Thank you to @postpartum_peacemakers and @readysetpushinc for donating BP cuffs to be given away!

If monitoring your own blood pressure causes you anxiety, then let @operationmist help! They offer remote monitoring for pregnancy and postpartum mamas to track your vitals and can offer guidance.

There are a few more people who helped, but, I'll save the other parts for dinners and more intimate conversations.
To the families who have trusted me, thank you. Thanks for being a part of this journey and lending your sometimes tragic experiences and stories so we can cope with, love and prevent other tragic stories.

I was blessed to complete @whapio_and_thematrona 's Quantum Doula Training and MEGI 's high risk doula cert as well.

@readysetpushinc " pushed " me through the Community Breastfeeding Specialist cert ( @lactationtraining )and @liquidgoldstandardps holds my hand while I struggle with this IBCLC lol.
If @mama_sarahn ever opens her books again....who knows. ( someone else who has held me close and shown love).

Thanks @gablackdoulanetwork for all the opportunities.
I love it. Wouldn't trade it and I'm glad to walk with and amongst these women.
