Day 2 of the 2026 Shared Kitchen Summit: shorter on sessions, big on ideas, and then we hit the road 🚌

Girard Newkirk of @genesisblockilm opened the morning with Food as Infrastructure, making the case that food is the missing link in local economic development.

Then into the breakouts:

🏭 Cash Flow to Buyers: how @hopeandmainpvd supports co-packing members through financial literacy, lean production training, and real pathways to market

⚖️ Mission + Margin: balancing purpose and revenue across nonprofit and for-profit models with @csknewjersey and @realgoodkitchen

🔑 Repurposed Kitchens: turning church kitchens, closed restaurants, and community centers into shared kitchen access with @nefbadvisors @hartfordculinarycollab @gatherandgrowkitchen @handsonhartford

✅ Food Safety Partnerships: how @mecklenburgcounty health works alongside operators to set kitchens up for long-term success

In the afternoon we left the conference room behind for the Providence Shared Kitchen Bus Tour, visiting @hopeandmain, @farmfreshri , Sankofa Community Kitchen @sankofapvd , and @navadbakers to see the local food ecosystem up close. Huge thanks to our hosts for opening their doors! 🙌

One more day to go. See you tomorrow for Day 3! 👋

So what if we’re having 90 degree weather in September? It’s pumpkin season, and @teddyleesbananapudding has his Pumpkin Pudding with Ginger Shortbread Cookies ready to spice up your life! You can find his sweet treats Wednesday @nourishmarkets on Market Square and throughout the week in the Grab & Go @threeriversmarket.

We are officially @realgoodkitchen members! This is where all the magic will happen with our Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls & Bagels! We are still doing some research & development on the environment & how our sourdough will behave here but so far we have loved being a part of this kitchen!
