Gloom Wall Mirror by @realm.obj

The carved frame ripples outward in dark, cloud-like forms intersected with black hearts. At its center, the polished copper glows warm against the shadowed wood, its surface waxed to a soft, hazy finish offering an ethereal reflection. The contrast between the frame’s brooding edges and the copper’s ember-like warmth creates a quiet tension of twilight charm.

Still catching my breath from May: NYCxDesign, a rainy camp, a beautiful Porchfest. I moved back to Philly like a moth to a lamp, and it’s been a wonderful ride.

NYC RECAP… 🍎 @thefutureperfect @jonald.dudd @duddhaus @nycxdesign

This year I travelled to the city with @kmsalterdesign to explore and reenergize our design spirits. Krista and I love the city so much and always take the excuse to explore. This year I was reminded how many great friends that I’ve made over the years, and how valuable it is to see them and talk about our projects and ideas and businesses.

Community is such an important piece of the puzzle. We were also inspired by all the beautiful things our friends made, and also by all the beautiful furniture in galleries and showrooms. When you see the top tier of your craft it’s inspirational.

Looking forward to the next trip, but for now we have work to do!

28thOn view through February as part of the Low Rites exhibition with @jamesbouche

Low Rites gathers objects that exist somewhere between use and devotion. Neither solely functional nor purely symbolic, the works in this exhibition carry the residue of ritual: gestures repeated, surfaces worn, and forms shaped by quiet acts performed while time stands still. These are objects meant to be handled, placed, leaned against, lived with, yet they also suggest something more: as witness, vessel, or instrument for the daily divination of the esoteric and mundane.

Realm is a design studio and workshop with a taste for aberrant and eclectic design. Experimental in its approach, Realm offers unique and bespoke objects and furniture handcrafted in Baltimore.

Founded by artists Ian Murphy and Stevie Pniewski, Realm was conceived to be a creative atelier where off-kilter form and playful expression is synthesized with their mutual love of ancient crafts and bold ornamentation. With a background in fine arts and over a decade of experience in boutique furniture manufacturing, their collaboration combines fine woodworking, jewelry and metal smithing, leatherwork, upholstery, and detailed sculpting. Embracing the strange and otherworldly, Realm’s vision is constantly morphing, flirting with avant-garde and modern design while maintaining a sense of mischief and seduction.

The exhibition, Low Rites with @jamesbouche opens this Friday 2/6, 6-9pm at Dudd Haus, 307 Arch St. Philadelphia 19106
