Happy 50th birthday to one of my greatest teachers: hip-hop

Hip-hop is not only a culture/
It’s a lifestyle/
Fostering a sense of home/
All around the world/

Travels would tell me/
That hip-hop is much more ancient/
Than we make it out to be/
Leaving a time-tested trail/
Of fertile creative soil/
Bearing fruits of friendship and solidarity/
@raptivism and remembering/

From Cali to Kazakhstan/
Kathmandu to Kalamazoo/
Beatboxing to breakdancing/
Casual conversation to cyphers/
I’m eternally grateful.
🙏🏽✨❤️

HIP HOP turns 50.
I met her when I was 9 years old. It started in the hood of poor neighborhoods where scarcity was rampant. Youth would find it to be a therapeutic way to share and bond with each other. Of course there’s different pov and each one has their own truth. I came from that same marginalized neighborhoods where saw shootings on your walk to the corner bakery in the morning. Only difference was that I lived in South America but the struggle was the exact same. Throughout the years the culture has been raped and pillaged, bastardized and pimped, bought out and resold but the essence of what once was still remains. I still love her. Here’s to another 50, Hip Hop ❤️

Despertarse en pleno NY en el 50th aniversario de lo que realmente hace vibrar la city solo tiene un nombre: HIP HOP.
Make it real, make it flow.
Gracias por la noche de ayer, you know.

My sophomore album ‘XXIII’ is out now! 14 tracks delivered to your preferred streaming platform! It’s been quite the journey leading up to this moment and it translates through the music. forever grateful 🌹
•
628 days ago I gathered some of my closest friends and favorite artists in one room to embark on a journey that would later become XXIII. We invested countless hours, miles, and emotions into this album over the course of the past two years. This one is special. I hope some of your favorite new songs belong to this collection of 14 tracks. I especially want to thank everyone involved. With a team like this behind me and all of the supporters, family, and friends I have by my side, it’s no question that we’re destined for some great things. This is XXIII. 💿
•
Now that the album is finally here I want to remind everyone to join us tomorrow for the XXIII Release Party at El Club! I can’t imagine sharing this moment with anyone else but all of you! Come thru for some great music, food, and drinks! We have merchandise to sell for the first time in years and I hear there’s an after party like five mins away to continue the celebrations! Doors open at 7:30 and tickets will still be available at the door.

This album in its entirety is dedicated to my late grandfather, Ismael Bandolero Duran. 🕊️
