Sometimes the work isn’t about adding more—it’s about obsessing over the details no one consciously notices.
For this Epic Aircraft film, we approached the airplane the same way you’d approach photographing a luxury automobile. Every reflection, every highlight, every shadow was intentional.
We transformed an aircraft hangar into a controlled studio environment, shaping light across the airplane’s curves and carefully managing reflections with oversized bounce and negative fill. We even wet the hangar floor to create subtle reflections that added depth and elegance to each frame. Every lighting cue was designed to reveal another detail of the aircraft.
The film also features a walk-and-talk with Epic Aircraft CEO Doug King. Keeping someone naturally lit while moving alongside a highly reflective airplane is its own challenge, but it’s one we love solving. A carefully crafted lighting approach and a floating camera move allowed us to guide viewers seamlessly through the aircraft without ever drawing attention to the technique behind it.
That’s our favorite kind of filmmaking—the kind where the craftsmanship disappears, leaving only the feeling.

While filming the surfing scene for this next 5 Hour Energy spot, both my fins broke off my feet so I was floating helplessly in the ocean with a camera in both hands but still managed to get some cool stuff (thankfully it was a small day in Half Moon Bay).
