I’ve known and admired these cats @iamj3po & @jamiedonaldeblen since we were wee little NYU Jazz punks, and now they’re crushing it all over the damn world. Always grateful to make music or break bread together — and especially to get to feature them on this new record. “Lid fun a Meydl” w/ @iamtemma & @benbenabraham is out now on @adhyaroparecords and there’s much more to come… ⛈️

Still reflecting with so much gratitude on this experience in Miami 🤍 Recording at Criteria Studios with Justin was a truly meaningful experience, and one I will carry with me for a long time. While being there, it occurred to me that among the many incredible names and artists who have recorded in these rooms, I was the first person to record in Salvadoran Nawat here — that realization meant so much to me. To be able to bring my ancestral language into a space with such a rich musical history means so much more to me than simply making a recording. Representation matters. For me, being able to represent through music and art is a way of honouring my ancestors, my family, and all those who came before me who carried this language, culture, and memory — including those who can no longer speak our language today. Nawat is not only something I am learning. It is something I am helping carry forward. I feel incredibly fortunate that music has given me another way to connect with my roots and share a part of Salvadoran Indigenous culture with others. Every opportunity to create, record, perform, and learn is also an opportunity to say: we are still here, and our languages and cultures continue. A special thank you to Justin Goldner for sharing this experience with me, and for his musicianship, generosity, and collaboration. It was a pleasure to work together, and I look forward to reconnecting and creating together again 🤍 Thanks to @mileydy_artiles and @davepoler as well, it was a pleasure working with you and sharing this special moment together. Payush (Thank you) to everyone who has carried Nawat before me, and to those who continue carrying it today. Te ma miki ne tupal — May what’s ours not die 🫶🏽

I’ve been lucky to record at some amazing spots around the world, but it was truly a treat to produce a session at the legendary @criteria_recording_studios in Miami, gracias a the amazing @bellariosofficial for joining me 🙏 Seriously, the volume of classic tunes recorded there is astounding - “How Deep Is Your Love”, Layla, Aretha’s Young, Gifted & Black, Eat a Peach, parts of Hotel California and Rumours, some of my fav Miami Sound Machine cuts – it’s bonkers. 🎧 🎥 @mileydy_artiles 🎚️ @davepoler

Out now from @adhyaroparecords — ‘Vos Vilste Miter Hobn?’, the debut single from @rebtsudek featuring vocals by @riki_rose as well as contributions from drummer @jamiedonaldeblen and cellist (and Adhyâropa logo artist!) @emilyhopeprice. Available at the Bandcamp link in bio and story, and on streaming services on February 9th. ‘Vos Vilste Miter Hobn?’ is a modern arrangement of a Yiddish folk song and the first in a series of collaborations of new contemporary Yiddish music in dialogue with other minoritized languages. The upcoming project, Vi Shturem a Benken: Songs of Longing & Belonging, takes up themes of connection and diaspora across cultures, testifying to minority tongues as a potent means of contemporary expression, and is supported through a fellowship grant by the Jewish Writers Institute. Beyond his career in popular music, film and jazz, in der Yiddisher velt, Tsudek (a.k.a. @jusgold1) has overseen development and translation of games and digital tools that facilitate the daily use and learning of Yiddish and other heritage languages. A restless traveler and language junkie, music has taken him to 74 countries in search of exchange and connection with communities from a mélange of traditions. Riki Rose is a powerhouse Yiddish singer, songwriter, comedian, and entertainer with a bold voice and a bigger personality. Raised in the ultra-Orthodox Satmar community of Williamsburg, and known for her viral hit ‘Utem Arein Utem Arois’ (‘Breathe In, Breathe Out’), Riki blends music, comedy, and raw soul to captivate audiences across cultural barriers. Rose’s deep connection to the Satmar Hasidic community is a profound influence on her musical journey. Growing up in Williamsburg, New York, she was immersed in a world rich with tradition and spirituality. This unique cultural backdrop shaped her artistic expression, infusing her music with a sense of history and identity. Riki’s performances are a testament to her heritage, blending the soulful melodies of her community with her own contemporary flair and bridging the gap between past and the present.
