Nothing resets your brain like choosing to suffer a little. Skip the Love Island binge next weekend and go train in the woods with the boys.

Great class with @colorado_contingency and great dudes.

You asked for it, here it is. Back at it again with the COCON cryptid count. This time, we've got a couple of other affiliated collaborators showing us what they've also been able to stir up. If you got a crypted problem, yo, I'll solve it. Check out the hook while my DJI dissolves it!

The eagle claw inspired field jacket project has been coming along nicely.

First let's cover an unrelated note: if you're not following @mankind_against_pedos then what are you doing? The man is doing God's work. Fair warning, though, some of the stuff he catches is absolutely heart-wrenching.

Back to your regularly scheduled programing.

This M65 was originally desert tan, worn by a Marine cousin of mine during Desert Storm. It was given to me when I was a kid. Dyed back (took 2 tries) and then molded with OD canvas from a shelter half. It's not quite finished but it's close.

Bear in mind this is not a 1:1 clone, just an inspired project.

So many MREs. Standard military meals, TOTM meals, high altitude rations, humanitarian meals, cold weather MREs, main meals, sopako civilian MREs, mountain house entrees… The cold weather MREs are literally just mountain house entrees with a bunch of sides. The surplus gnome eats these exclusively.

I don't believe in anything, I'm just here for the violence.

Tell me how your 2.5k piston gun or 150 dollar charging handle fixes port pop or how your po'boy fix with gasket sealer is jusasgud in the comments, no one will read it but at least you'll feel better about disappointing your parents.

Raider Wayne 'Big John' Saunders of CR Iroquois performs a pre-combat check of his equipment before deployment. On his helmet is found the graffiti "better dead than fed" a common phrase among troopers of the Freestate during the war. (2019, scanned into Archives in 2024)

When asked about the mismatch, Saunders explained "Man, I don't give shit what color the vest is, I'll wear hot pink if it'll stop rounds and carry mags. From across the street camo don't matter"

As part of Iroquois' deployment, they would be reinforcing CR Comanche, lending their MOUT expertise to their Sapper/Recon specialized fellows. Together the teams would hold the line in Garden City until elements of the Texan 182nd Aerial Militia could bring their Falcons north alongside the 1st Armored and 26th Cavalry Regiments in support of the then-upcoming Arkansas River offensive.

Paratrooper of the 69th LARP Battalion, 420th Airbuwu Division looks out over the LZ in Cambodia, 1981.

While official ground involvement in the Vietnam War came to a close by 1975, elements of the 420th PIR, mostly the 69th LARP, would continue operations in and around the Mekong Delta, the Laotion and Cambodian borders to this very day. After '84 these operations would falls under the banner of Thiccv-sog and then later the LARP And Observations Group or LOAG.

LIKE A SNAKE IN THE GRASS

Remember that cursed post about a ucp cover on an M1?

Pepperidge farms remembers.

Side note, it's weird looking back at how much has changed on my carryhandle carbine when so much still remains the same: c7 upper, @tntesalesinc barrel, Ruger enhanced trigger, NOS pre-ban 2pos buffer tube and car stock.

Helmets: why are they important?
(Feat. T Block drip) 2/2

Continuing from the previous post, I promised to share use cases so i shall.

Ballistic helmets, as plenty of guys on here that have actually been knee deep in the shit can attest, can easily turn that shrapnel that would have taken up residence in your parietal lobe into a neato souvenir rather than the thing that killed you. They aren't infallible and can be heavy. but as stated previously, they provide protection that could turn a corpse into a patient. They come in various protection levels to suit your needs, from steel pots like the M1 or East German M56 to top of the line polyethylene composites than are rated for limited intermediate rifle protection like the ECH. Generally weight increases alongside protection but for keeping your brain nice and smooth, nothing does the job as well save for not being in danger in the first place.

Non-ballistic helmets may only provide protection from bonks on the noggin, but you may well be more likely to catch a thrown brick or falling trash with your head than a bit of supersonic shrapnel. They still provide the same mounting hard points as ballistic lids often do but save your spine on weight. Think back to the last time you got rocked by a blow to the head and ask yourself if a stiff neck at the end of the day would have hurt more than getting clocked.

Now of course helmets have downsides: weight and bulk, compatibility with weapons, optic or CBRN gear, being harder to have around for emergencies, being more conspicuous than hats.

These are all valid points and you should of course gut check them and compare your needs to your options. But just don't discount an option because it looks silly. I'm sure we all would rather be recognized as "that goofy sumbitch with the helmet" than "that poor dead guy over there"

Helmets: why are they important?
(Feat. #tigerstripe drip) 1/2

I see a lot of guys on here say that a helmet is simply dead weight that slows you down and that they aren't worth it for the meager protection they afford.

I won't tell you that you'll die without one and anyone not using one is a moron. What I *will* tell you is my personal use-case of and argument for the use of helmets, both ballistic and not.

In my short life I have had no less than four concussions. In two of these cases my wearing a helmet played a major role in keeping me from being severely injured and so I'd like to share them with you.

The first time a helmet saved my ass was in basic training, during the pugel stick practice I received a blow to the head so hard that my head and feet swapped places. I landed on my temple with my full body weight and in a nasty way. The medics claimed that the padded liner of my helmet allowed my head to decelerate just slowly enough to avoid a cervical-spine injury and instead resulted in a concussion. I'm not sure how that works, but thats what they told me.

The second time I was at work, I leaned a load lock (an eight foot steel bar with a square steel plate oj each end) on the wall of the trailer I was in. Something caused it to shift and this twenty pound bar fell over, smashing the corner of the steel foot into the crown of my skull, or it would have had I not been wearing a headset as the time. The band of the headset is a foam pad with a hard plastic arm on top. The plastic took a nasty notching from the load lock instead of the weakest part of my skull. The concussion resulted from the blow knocking me out the end of the trailer. Had I worn a full hard had instead of just a ruggedized Bluetooth headset, I likely could have avoided the concussion as well.

As a result, if I'm not under hard cover or open sky, I try to wear head protection of some form. I am well past the point of caring if it looks goofy (I need no help in that regard) or makes me look a fool. The simple fact is that a helmet often turns what would be a dead man into a hurt man.

A hurt man can heal, a dead one can't. A #helmet is #ppe no different than goggles or gloves
