Redha Al Hammad @redhaalhammad is a photographer and visual artist from Al Qatif, Saudi Arabia. Redha’s work centers narratives in his hometown. These narratives are grounded in oral histories and collective memories which weave together past and present. Many of his projects also explore the implications of urban change on social and cultural dynamics in the region. Redha approaches this by pairing his photographic work with family archives, printmaking, writing and collaborative projects.

Redha Al Hammad (@redhaalhammad), a photographer and visual artist from Al Qatif, builds his work around the stories of his hometown — weaving together oral histories, collective memory, and family archives to explore how time, place, and rapid urban change shape cultural identity.

In O Breaker of the Louz, Redha traces the long-standing relationship between the people of Al-Qatif and the freshwater springs that sustained the region for thousands of years. Once central to agriculture, community gatherings, and ritual practices from pre-Islamic times to the present, many of these springs have now dried up or are close to disappearing. Guided by folklore and the shifting boundaries between past and present, fantasy and reality, Redha pairs photography with archives, anthotypes, and poetry to reflect on what remains — and what is fading.

Developed under the mentorship of Roï Saade (@roisaade) for the 2025 Kingdom Photography Award Micro-Residency — an initiative by the Visual Arts Commission (@visualarts_moc) supporting photographers documenting everyday life, heritage, and landscapes across Saudi Arabia.
