🎬 What does Caribbean cinema look like when we widen the lens?

Aruba. Curaçao. Suriname.

Five filmmakers. Five distinct points of view. Stories told in Papiamento, Dutch and English—moving through dreams, music, family, love, memory, community and home.

And two of these films have earned three CSIFF26 Award nominations. 🏆

In our latest Substack, we're introducing you to five filmmakers we want on your radar:

Happy International Women's Day!

Have you watched the Bob Marley:One Love film yet?

There's been a lot of controversy about many aspects of the film, including Bob not being played by a Jamaican, the portrayal of Bob & Rita Marley's relationship, key people in Bob's life being left out of the film, and the way the man himself was depicted.

Today, we're sharing a town hall discussion hosted by our community members @mikelahkrose @carryonfriends @styleandvibes @reelsandriddims
@breadfruitmedia

This thought-provoking discussion, led by two smart and inspiring Jamaican American women in media, touches on a plethora of topics.

Click the link in our bio to watch the video!

And we hope you take the time to celebrate yourselves on this International Women's Day!

We get the business behind the decision.
However, Sheldon Shepherd a phenomenal Jamaican actor, could’ve been casted as Bob Marley and play the role better.

Look-a-likeness aside, Sheldon, like Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles in Ray and Chadwick Boseman as James Brown in Get On Up could’ve undergone an incredible transformation to fully embody the iconic Bob Marley.
