POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Today’s featured Re/Gen artist is @daulthejazzdestroyer

Daul Lee is a pianist and composer from Wichita, KS, who writes music that celebrates the work of other storytellers - whether it’s in video games, anime, manga, or literature.

On Sunday, October 25th, Daul Lee will be bringing their Atelier to the Re/Gen showcase for the first time at YesWay Live. While their music lives in the world of jazz, their influences include hip-hop, rock, modern large ensemble writing, church music, and classical piano.

“Re/Gen, to me, is about the thing that many Black American musicians have been pursuing for as long as this music has existed: the freedom of expression and the ability to tell their stories to the wider world. We’re drawing upon the roots of this music to bring it to the future, like many in the past have done.”

Our next featured Re/Gen artist is: The Paxton Harvey Elektrik Band

Paxton has been playing bass for 11 years, growing up on Rock, Motown, Jazz, Rap, and R&B. Inspired heavily by artists like Jimi Hendrix, Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, and Yussef Dayes, he’s drawn to other creators who bring an experience alongside their music.

Paxton’s band creates a meditative experience of improvisation, groove, and sound. Using unique textures and modern sounds, they conjure a new vibe and space for live improvisation.

This Sunday you can catch them floating and improvising over their original music at @yeswaylive for the Re/Gen showcase. “@regenculture is about bringing this new wave of jazz to the front. Making the right space for this powerful musical community and what’s happening in Kansas City. Utilizing the sounds we have now to make something new that is inspired and educated by tradition.“

Meet today’s featured Re/Gen artist: DJ Skeme.

Being raised in an African Christian household and having lived in two countries (Japan and the USA), gave DJ Skeme valuable moments that shaped his diverse tastes, perspectives, and deep appreciation for art, culture, and community.

He earned his style of djing in the most unconventional way - from a Japanese dj who did not speak English. That dedication to learning turned into a 20+ year career in music curation that has taken him to 3 countries, and over 30 venues.

This Sunday, he’ll be at a new venue: YesWay Live. Spinning a fusion of jazz with its offspring including funk, Afrobeat, hip hop, and R&B, he’s the perfect pairing for the @regenculture Showcase. “It’s about he rebirth of the soul of jazz in KC with a focus on its evolution for the future.”

Catch @dj.skeme and a multitude of other amazing artists and bands this Sunday at @yeswaylive at 5:00pm!

Mirror Mountain, a commentary on self-reflection through the lens of public figures and your environment.

Public figures can be like mirror mountains: larger, more distant, and often shaped by selective views, making them powerful but also distorting our view of ourselves. Ordinary people, by contrast, can act like everyday mirrors; closer and more familiar, reflecting aspects of our lives that may be easier to recognize. Both can reveal something about who we are, but neither is a complete or perfectly accurate reflection.
