The golden bamboo lemur is critically endangered with a known population of just over 600 individuals. They live only in southeastern Madagascar and are the only primate to subsist on a diet of bamboo. They have evolved to tolerate a diet that contains enough cyanide to be lethal to other mammals. Loss of the bamboo forests due to human encroachment, and to a lesser extent hunting, are the main causes of their declining population #wildlifewednesdaychallenge photo inspo: @nickgarbuttphotography

Wildlife Wednesday Challenge
Endangered Species Art Challenge - Kakapo

Hosted by:
@lizzywatercolor
@ecowarrior8888

The Kakapo is a flightless parrot that is nocturnal. An endangered species and a unique treasure of New Zealand, it is critically endangered.

As a result of habitat loss and invasive cats, rats, and stoats that were brought to New Zealand primarily by Europeans, the bird has nearly been wiped out. There are only 252 Kākāpō alive today.

Please share and spread the awareness around, thank you!

Wildlife Wednesday Challenge
Endangered Species Prompt 16
Art Challenge - Smalltooth Sawfish

Hosted by:
@lizzywatercolor
@ecowarrior8888

Smalltooth Sawfish have evolved long snouts with special teeth. Its sawlike snout, called a rostrum, is used to slice prey in half or to dig through sediment. It grows up to 23 feet (7 meters) long. The average length of a smalltooth sawfish is 18 feet (5.5 meters) and it may reach 25 feet (7.6 meters).

The smalltooth sawfish is an endangered species according to the federal government. As their long, toothed rostrums become easily entangled in fishing gear, sawfish populations are likely declining due to overharvesting and entanglement in fishing gear.

Please share and spread the awareness around, thank you!

A lemur leaf frog

I've painted this little guy for the @wildlifewednesdaychallenge .
This species lives in Costa Rica and Panama and is critically endangered. It's threatened by a fungus and (like so often) loss of habitat due to deforesting.

Here is the finished drawing of a Tamaraw, who are a critically endangered species, using @procreate. ✏️

I was inspired by @wildlifewednesdaychallenges , who raise awareness of threatened species, through art. I decided to take part in last weeks challenge.
