Our annual mid-year design report is always an important moment to collectively sit down as a studio and assess the last six months. This was even more important this year, as the start of 2022 saw us come out of two years of rolling lockdowns and re-enter the world of in-person product launches, exhibitions and events. The result has been a heady mix of exciting projects by Relay, including our collaboration with Browns Fashion for London Fashion Week and the refurbishment of our Shoreditch studio. Our brands have also initiated astonishing activities including two exhibitions at the Design Museum plus new showrooms and international pop-ups. Plus the return of international trade fairs which was kicked off by Clerkenwell Design Week in May, and was quickly followed by Milan Design Week and 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen.

The following report collates all our news and highlights the latest developments from our brands including major new product launches and design trends. Our aim, as always, is to keep you fully updated and informed before the next round of product launches and events after the summer.

Launching next week...the latest in our series of design reports Future focus. Link in the bio for details.

Sustainability has been one of the founding principles of Relay Design Agency since we were established in 2009. In the ensuing decade we have seen the spotlight on sustainability increase in both scale and intensity. Sustainable design and manufacturing is now one of the most important factors in the majority of the projects we work on, rather than an additional bonus.

As the challenges of sustainable production are laid bare, one simple factor has proven to be universally effective in focusing industries on their path to a greener & fairer world - and that is the role of traceability.

For this edition of Future Focus, we look at the role of traceability & transparency in evaluating raw materials and providing roadmaps for innovations in material development. We look at those championing traditional forms of manufacturing as well as those exploring the latest in new technologies, as well as innovative uses of recycled and reclaimed materials.
