Firstly, I want to thank Berklee for giving me the space to perform and express myself. 🙌 And I want to thank everyone who was in the room. Your embrace and support really filled my heart. 💕

Today we commemorate three years since the October 7th massacre. On that day, those terrorists murdered 1,200 people and took 250 hostage. Some were asleep, waking up to the smell of their homes burning, while others were dancing at a nearby festival, only to find themselves hiding among dead bodies a moment later.

I remember waking up to the sirens, thinking it was just another routine rocket alert. Those days of not knowing whether my family or friends were safe were among the most traumatic experiences of my life.

Six months later, one of my closest friends, Sivan Weil, was killed in Gaza. Sivan was one of the strongest people I knew, both mentally and physically. I couldn’t be more grateful for 18 years of friendship and for the amazing memories that I will never forget. ❤️ @remember_sivan_weil

Staff Sergeant Sivan Weil, a soldier in the Egoz Unit of the Commando Brigade, succumbed to his wounds after being injured in battle in the southern Gaza Strip, at 20 years old. He left behind parents, two brothers, a sister, and his girlfriend, Yahli. Sivan was raised in an immigrant household, yet was deeply proud of his Israeli identity. He was very close to his parents, his siblings, and his grandmothers. Being quiet, shy, and gentle, he spent hours in his room watching movies or reading. Sports were also an inseparable part of his life. He loved watching basketball games, followed the NBA devotedly, and played soccer and basketball video games. Over the years he participated in judo, soccer, handball, capoeira, volleyball, and excelled in playing basketball during high school. Every year he traveled to southern France for summer at his grandmother’s house, where he made unforgettable memories with his cousins. Each year he flew with friends to a 3 week camp of the “Scouts of France” youth movement. At camp, he did not want to speak French with the guys rather insisted on strictly speaking Hebrew saying: “You are Jews, you must learn Hebrew!” Sivan had the kindest heart yet was not afraid to express his opinions, while his values of giving and Zionism guided him always. From childhood he had 3 close friends he met in kindergarten: Teo, Yair, and Eitan, and they were inseparable. Over the years he made more friends, choosing them carefully after they earned his trust. With his friends he opened up, joked and played pranks, played, ate, and went out to spend time and travel together. From a young age Sivan wanted to serve in an elite unit, and therefore in 2020 he began training for combat fitness. In training, he worked hard to improve his fitness and showed humility and modesty even as he reached high achievements. On April 7, 2022, he enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the Egoz Commando Unit in the “Oz” Brigade of the infantry corps.
Beyond being a determined, professional, and precise fighter, he made sure to encourage his teammates, lift morale, and stay positive even in difficult moments.
