“Maija”, A1, R6 430, a beautiful mixed media piece on metal by @renexart inspired by Japanese ink drawing, adorned with jewels and a bull ring to give this striking portrait an unexpected edge.⁣ ⁣ Available to order from @anonpopup.⁣ ⁣ ----------------------⁣ ⁣ ANON. A debut group exhibition by our new pop-up gallery concept.⁣ ⁣ Inspired by Virginia Woolf's famous quote, "For most of history, Anonymous was a woman," the work on this exhibition has been curated around ideas of female creative expression and gender equality.⁣ ⁣ ANON. is about giving a voice to the voiceless, expressing female identity in all its complexity, having a conversation around female artistic expression as well as how women are represented in art, encouraging creativity in women, and prompting dialogue around gender – whether it be gender identity or fluidity, breaking stereotypes or reinforcing gender roles. All opinions have their place.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ The work selected for the show all speaks to some aspect of this and in the diversity, variety and incredible openness and vulnerability we have received in so many of your submissions, ANON. comes together as a body of work that is powerful and compelling. ⁣ ⁣ ANON. welcomes a huge range of voices to its debut show in Observatory, Cape Town.⁣ ⁣ #anonpopup #capetown #capetownart #capetownartweek #capetownartist #lovecapetown #capetownpopup #portraiture #artist #art #loveart #capetownmagazine #capetownnews #observatory #obs #obslife #virginiawoolf #womxn #femaleidentity #empower #feminism #femininespirit #creativepower #artactivism #women #humanrights #democracy #southafrica

@renexsart is one of our artists upstairs at ANON. showcasing her series of 5 female portraits handpainted with ink and printed onto metal, alongside her daughter @artwithchristina who also has work on the show.⁣ ⁣ This is “Thandi”, A2, available for R4140.⁣ ⁣ "Working in ink has taught me that there is real beauty in “Imperfection” and a liberation in letting go.⁣ It has a beautiful ethereal quality and like life, you can never repeat anything exactly the same, every mark is unique.⁣ ⁣ I describe my work as Gestural art. ~ Gesture is action, movement, emotion and is embodied in everything. ~ Gesture is the expression that makes the impression.⁣ ~ Gesture in the brush strokes that make the painting.⁣ ⁣ My main influence is the minimalist technique of ancient Chinese ink paintings. Chinese painting and calligraphy put emphasis on motion and change in dynamic life. Using highly precise brushstrokes that delimit details.⁣ .⁣ Come see a selection of my paintings at Anon Group Exhibition, 42 Trill Road, Observatory. 6pm - 9pm 👀🔥⁣ ⁣ ---------------------------------⁣ ⁣ ANON.
