Is your acoustic guitar haunted by the trauma of being a tree?

Rick Bass — petroleum geologist turned Montana Project director — explains how a 315-year-old spruce, felled during a Forest Service clearcut in Montana's Yaak Valley, became the Black Ram Guitar.

Jeff Bridges heard it once and commissioned six more. Now it's touring with a busload of MFA students trying to get the Black Ram region of the Yaak designated as America's first Climate Refuge. We talk old-growth forests, grizzly habitat, the politics behind a proposed 800-acre clearcut, and whether a guitar can actually stop a chainsaw.

I’ve been a little more quiet lately while finding the words and melodies to match the life I have been given and living. Know I love you all with all my heart and covering you in prayers and blessings this weekend an always! Until the songs find their way to me, I will find my way to the songs.

"I love to work. I love to create. I have to create,” Ren Ferguson, renowned luthier and owner of Ferguson Guitars, told Mountain Outlaw. In his shop in Belgrade, Montana, Ren’s hands are always busy—chiseling, carving, shaping wood into objects that carry stories, soul and sound. That drive to create has fueled a lifetime of innovation, from restoring instruments in a Southern California music store to becoming one of the most respected names in guitar-making.

Read about the legendary luthier and the craft he is passing down to his children, at the link in our bio.

Ren Ferguson is among the most noted master luthiers in the United States and has been since the 1970s. Many luthiers who wish to follow his style of building have studied his approach to guitar design and building. Their guitars now ship with Boveda. Another step towards a quality experience. Proud we are! #renfurgeson #loveyourinstrument #bovedamusic #shipswithBoveda
