POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Bittersweet, the end of summer camp. After 8 months of planning, 40+ interviews leading to 22 hires, followed by the setup of 27 independent classrooms, I finally made it to the start of a 7 week summer camp in June. The hard work paid off and I was able to lean on my family and my excellent staff and faculty - who I am proud to say, I personally interviewed and hired.

Together we educated more than 250 grade K-12 artists in classes ranging from creative writing to STEAM maker spaces to Improv and Musical Theatre. We fixed problems, bandaged wounds, threw a killer community carnival, made cotton candy, hiked a mountain, directed films, published stories, wrote songs, put on four musical theatre productions and so much more. But I think, best of all, we helped kids feel cared for and empowered as artists and as people - it was the most difficult and purposeful work I’ve ever engagd in.

But now it feels quiet, all classrooms have been restored to their original state, materials filed away, students off to enjoy their last days of summer, and closing reports and messages sent out. I guess until my daughters’ fall starts, I’ll have one extra hour of sleep and a little more time on my hands - so I think I’ll rest for now, close down the theatre and leave on the #ghostlight. But when I come back, I have something REALLY Special I’d love to share with you…

When I imagined my 20s, I thought I had it all figured out… or at least most of it. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned so far, it’s that this chapter is anything but predictable. It’s been a mix of fun, chaos, growth, and figuring things out as I go✨

Lately, I’ve been trying to slow down and reflect on the little joys that add meaning to my everyday life. These moments help me navigate the uncertainty and remind me of the beauty in this season of growth🌱

So, to start, here are a few things that make me happy🌻💛

The Musicverse - Fall 2024 🎥🎸

This is The Musicverse! My Senior Thesis experiment at @lmusftv - When a band of 3 distraught highschool musicians gets whisked away to a world where music comes to life, they must put aside their differences to make it to their career defining audition. Alone in this world is chaos, but together we create harmony. Message me if you want a link to watch!

The Musicverse was an ambitious one:
- 2 days shooting on a green screen stage
- building 3 miniature worlds - a forest, desert, and mountain range - for human characters to inhabit
- stop motion animating the music, storm, and Nota the talking music note
- a fantastic @renjcart 2D animated sequence
- endless VFX problem solving
- a completely original @don_claverie score with 10+ LMU musicians

I wanted to push every element of screen-based storytelling as much as I could with this one.

I learned a ton, but the biggest thing I’ll take away from this project is that when faced with an absurdly ambitious creative task, collaborating with talented, diverse-minded people makes it a joy. Here’s the awesome team that made this thing possible:

Final presentations Middle / High School Creative Camps. It brings me a lot of joy to see young actors, writers and filmmakers grow into their crafts. Sad to see this part of camp coming to a close, but it’s definitely not the end of the journey for so many kiddos and families. Congrats to my lead teachers Brianna Gonzalez @whatsajohn @surewould @renjcart for a successful summer term!
