It was a privilege to be part of Reform Utsav, organised by MCD at the Civic Centre, and to share my journey of sustainable living and my zero-waste home.

It was truly a enriching learning experience to listen to and learn from the dignitaries present, gaining valuable insights and inspiration. Grateful for the opportunity to share, learn, and be part of this meaningful initiative towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow. 🌿

Before you throw it out this Diwali, ask yourself one question — where is it actually going?

Diwali cleaning usually means opening the wardrobe, decluttering clothes and making space. But this time, I wanted to think beyond just what leaves my home.

Wearable clothes can be donated. But what about the clothes that are torn, worn out, damaged or simply no longer wearable?

I didn’t feel right putting them straight into the dustbin. That’s when I found Respun — where discarded clothes are collected, sorted, recycled and repurposed.

They also offer doorstep pickup, with different weight categories and charges clearly mentioned, along with the option to courier clothes to their facility. Since we regularly travel to Panipat, we chose to take ours there ourselves — after confirming with Respun that we could drop them off.

Because responsible decluttering isn’t just about making space at home.

It’s about being mindful of what we leave behind. 🌿

And maybe this Diwali, making our homes lighter doesn’t have to mean making Mother Earth heavier.

Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, is driving responsible post-consumer textile management through a dedicated Textile Waste Collection Drive across Central Government office complexes and residential colonies in New Delhi.

The initiative promotes the Rewear → Reuse → Recycle approach, giving used textiles a new life through reuse, second-life applications and recycling wherever technically feasible.

What surprised us was the sheer quantity — and the fact that so many clothes were still in really good condition.

Instead of sending everything straight for recycling, we first found a more meaningful second life for what could still be used. ❤️
Our house helps were absolutely delighted to take clothes for themselves and their families.

Because sometimes, sustainable living isn't about doing something huge.
It's about not throwing away what can still be used, reused or recycled.

And if one community can collect this much, imagine what our societies could achieve if we all started doing it. 🌍
