T-minus 3 days to the last race of 2026 - and this one’s a doozy!! After missing my ultra-distance debut at @unboundgravel XL this year due to some wacky terrible illnesses, I am heading back to @midsouthgravel and redemption will be attempted on 300 miles / 480km of MEGA Mid South red dirt. I am nervous and excited about what this adventure will bring. I’ve never ridden for 20+ hours straight before. I’m excited to see where it takes me, in body and mind. But there are also a few things you might not expect, sooOOooo without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at a few other things you’ll find there: 📀 Book & record pairings: suggested combos, discounted when you buy them together. 🧺 Vintage treasures for sale: picked out for the shop by the two sisters behind @littlehouse.lane 🎨 Local art for sale: work by Margaret Hantiuk, in collaboration with @curatedhousehome . 💌 Penpal network: we’re now a Letter Keeper for @thesundayletterproject , so you can learn how to join their worldwide pen-pal project when you visit. + We’re giving our first 25 customers a coupon for a free seasonal latte from @ruthanddean across the road!! ☕️ @twiceasniceconsignmentoakbay will have Fall festivities next door, too. 🍂 There’s so much to explore in this neighbourhood, with so many great small businesses – it’s one of the things we love about being here. Couldn’t have a better send off than this. Wrapping up my pro career with one more triathlon. But this time the first ever in a category that aligns with my gender. COMING SOON: MEANT WELL BOOKS, WITH WALLS!!📚🏠 After two summers of popping up around Victoria, loading and unloading hundreds of books, checking the weather forecast far too often, and occasionally wondering if the truck will make it up a hill… we’re getting a shop…! This September, we’ll be soft opening in Estevan Village. 💚 We already love this little neighbourhood, just a couple blocks from Willows Beach, and we’re so excited to join some pretty great neighbours, including @ruthanddean, @timelesstoysvictoria, The Village Restaurant, @restorehuman , @willows_galley_1980 , @twiceasniceconsignmentoakbay — and to finally have somewhere to sell books when it’s raining sideways. And don’t worry, we’re not trading in our wheels. 🚚 The book truck will still be out and about during the sunnier months, and our little book scooter will keep zipping around for deliveries. 🛵 This just means Meant Well Books can now be around all year long. It feels a little wild that this is happening after only two summers. Thousands of you have followed along, come to our pop-ups and events, shared us with your friends, cheered us on and generally supported this whole idea enough to help us get here. We really, really can’t thank you enough. But the truck has one more stop before we officially move indoors: we’ll be at the Inner Harbour this weekend. 🚚📚 And we’re still hoping to squeeze in one more Reading Party before the rain kicks in, so stay tuned. Iceland 🇮🇸 week 2: Ring Road part 2 - north and west fjords, Reykjavik. Bummer that I ended up with a pretty bad cold so that put a kibosh on any seriously epic riding adventures. Masked up 😷 in the car to try and not get my parents sick (50% success 😔). The landscape of this island is just honestly incredible. It is truly like no other I have seen in my travels, with breathtaking vistas around every corner. The culture amazing - so many rainbows and pride flags 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ that made me feel so safe. Back in the city before we departed, Reykjavik was a sunny, bustling place with a lot of local artists, and of course I couldn’t pass up the 🍆 museum! I feel so lucky to have had this experience and see so much of this beautiful country, be graced with generally awesome weather for Icelandic summer. I learned a bit about what it’s like to live in a place where volcanic activity is a very real potential threat to your livelihood, and hear about the impact it’s had throughout their history. It’s easy to see how proud the people of Iceland are about their history and culture. 11/10 experiences. THE RIFT ICELAND: just wow. A little more from my 200k day - yes, when I was solo or walking, I took some rare moments to capture the experience bc what an incredible place to be, let alone ride a bike. After losing touch with the front pack of pro women just over an hour in, I was on a solo adventure for a bit before our trio formed and worked together for a good chunk of time. It’s hard to capture the vastness and beauty of the landscape in these videos. Also the steepness of some of these climbs lol. In retrospect, I can see how some smaller gears would have possibly allowed me to ride more of these ones. Sometimes bigger is not always better 😉 Also just one little tumble in a snowy descent (pictured as I’m riding away from it), stayed upright in the sand and didn’t flat in the chunkity chunk descents. I’m in Iceland!! Bucket list moment tomorrow at @therifticeland 200k. I am in the pro/elite nonbinary field!! I am the only one this year…but super rad that they have the category. Some stills from my KNDS finale number - Stronger. This number started out as a spur of the moment lypsinc-off between Mx Gay Vancouver @jesse.creations and I at a fundraiser in 2024, and it's grown up and evolved so much since I blew up a pair of balloons and taped them to a toilet paper roll to make a "weight". This number is dedicated to my Vancouver trainer Kesh from @restorehuman and my Kelowna kinesiologist Capri at @orthoquest I literally couldn't perform without their help keeping me healthy and strong through hypermobility, arthritis, and a hip replacement. Special thanks to Tina Bobina @ttinabobina for helping me add chair acrobatic choreo that worked with my physical limitations!
