The call is coming from within the house.

You know that pain in your hip when you squat? The achy shoulder that pops up every day you bench? What if that had less to do with the external loading and more to do with the internal alignment?

Power Athlete Master Coaches and Sports Medicine pros @menacedolan and @thegaragegympt talk us through my intention of movement may have more influence on adaptation than intensity of movement.

What are you training for?

The most fundamental question regarding program design and outcomes. If you can’t answer that, then you’re wondering. But the answer doesn’t necessarily have to be a singular event.

Power Athlete Master Coach @thegaragegympt talks about how he stays motivated daily by fighting off Father Time. Increasing the stimulus over time, by whatever means you choose, will keep the blade sharp enough to still cut when it’s needed.

When is less actually more?

If you’re dealing with a nagging injury, you’re probably searching for what you can add to your program to fix it. Where’s the magic bullet? What’s the one thing you’re missing out on?

The truth? It’s probably caused by doing too much. Power Athlete Master Coaches @thegaragegympt and @benskutnik talk about the reality around injury and load management this week. Using the model of elite sport, it’s safe to say your remedy is more about intentional work rather than volume.

Dosis sola facit venenum. Only the dose makes the poison.

Training is great for you up until the point that it’s not. You’ve got to be aware enough to know when the signals are there to pull back otherwise you might come crashing down.

Power Athlete Master Coach @thegaragegympt reminds us that it is okay to have a light day if the rest of our life is heavy. You can take your foot off the gas if the engine is running hot because no amount of weight lifted in the gym is going to offset a life that’s in a spiral.

What’s your 1RM High Knee Skip?

As the adage goes: how you do anything is how you do everything. Apply this to your warm ups? Do you approach your sprint prep with the same intent as your actual sprinting?

Power Athlete Master Coaches @benskutnik and @thegaragegympt comb through the nuance that most people overlook in this week’s episode. Warming up is more than just getting your temperature up, it’s tissue prep and it might be the key to you staying healthy and hammering for years to come.

If you want to understand injury, recovery, and adaptation you need to understand cellular biology.

This week, Power Athlete Master Coach and Physical Therapist @thegaragegympt gives a crash course on how our body adapts (and recovers) at a cellular level. Consistency with training is key, but knowing how long the runway is will really allow you to take flight.

You’ve got the world in the palm of your hand, but how much of it is made for you?

I’ll say it.

You can do better.

But you can’t do it on your own.

This is just a glimpse of what’s possible.

When you ask for help.

When you invest in yourself.

When you admit you can’t do it all by yourself.

Because it’s not supposed to be that way.

We were meant to live this life together.

Not just watch.

Not just press the like button.

If you’re tired to just scrolling.

If you’re tired of trying to find the perfect advice.

There’s a better way.

It starts with talking with a real person.

I’m here for you.

Let’s go!

Is the system actually working for you?

That was the question that sparked @thegaragegympt to blaze a new path. No two injuries are exactly the same, so the treatment and rehabilitation shouldn’t be cookie cutter either.

Every other aspect of health and fitness is bespoke to one’s needs. Personalized nutrition, personalized training, and rehab and return to play should be treated the same. But sometimes, practitioners are bound by the system. The result is getting caught in a downward spiral of re-aggravation due to insufficient practice.

Most people don’t need to push harder, they need to listen sooner.

Your prep work is not “wasted” just because you’re not going full speed yet. @thegaragegympt sees this all the time:

- people skip the warm-up work and wonder why they feel off
- they ignore the “not ready yet” signal and call it lack of discipline
- they rush progress and miss the part that actually builds durability

Your body is giving you feedback every step of the way.

The goal isn’t just to do the workout. It’s to adapt well enough to keep going.

Be patient. Pay attention. Let the work work.

What’s harder for you: slowing down or trusting the process?

I had SO much fun training a little differently today. 🙌

I’m strong. I work out consistently. But today Dennis reminded me how important it is to challenge our bodies in different ways.

As we get older, fitness shouldn’t become just walking on a treadmill or lifting the same weights in the same movement patterns.

We need to move in different directions. We need strength, power, speed, agility and coordination. We need to challenge our bodies to keep doing the things we want them to do for decades to come.

And maybe my favorite reminder from today: we are never too old to train like an athlete.

Huge thank you to Dennis Dolan at Restore Thrive for putting me through something completely different today. It was challenging, humbling at times 😂, and honestly SO much fun.

If you’re in the Kansas City area and want to move better, get stronger or challenge yourself in a completely different way, I highly recommend checking out Dennis and the team at Restore Thrive in Overland Park.

Getting older doesn’t mean doing less.

It means training so we can keep doing MORE. 💪

50 Years

Broken finger.
Broken ankle.

Multiple throwing shoulder injuries.
Chronic wrist pain.

Also…
Still lifting heavy.
Still sprinting.
Still ready to play any sport.

I don’t have 3 hours a day to train.

I’m not using hormones, peptides, or any other “hack” to do this.

I run a business.

I’ve got 3 school aged kids playing sports.

And I’m still dating my wife.

These videos aren’t about me.

It’s about showing you what’s possible.

I didn’t get here alone.

And you won’t either.

But you can do this.

If you’re willing to ask for help.

Ready?

So am I.

Let’s go!
