💀 HOLY HORRORS 💀
SUN NOV 1 @ 11am
with Rev. Micah Bucey @revmicahb + Special Guests Nat Cassidy @catnassidy + Clay McLeod Chapman @claymcleod
Judson Meeting Room + judson.org/worship

This All Saints’ Sunday, Micah will be joined by two astonishing artists who have breathed life-giving creativity into Judson's space and who are now two of the top beloved authors in the world of horror. Both Nat Cassidy and Clay McLeod Chapman vibrantly explore some of humanity's deepest shadows, but they also both embody a joy-fueled approach to all things that terrify them and us, offering a balance of spine-tingling images and soul-nurturing inspiration. Whether you're a hardcore fan of scary stories or someone who runs screaming at the thought of them, we'll gather around our sacred circle and explore how honestly befriending our fears just might transform us for the collective liberation work we're all called to do.

It's also Agape Sunday, so bring something to share at the table and we'll remind ourselves that love for all is the necessary ingredient for the Radical Hope that helps us to confront the horrors that surround us and lead us toward a wholly and holy different way.

🎃 SCARED SACRED 🎃
SUN OCT 25 @ 11am
with Rev. Micah Bucey @revmicahb
Judson Meeting Room + judson.org/worship

This Sunday, as Halloween approaches, Micah will lift up a lifetime love of all things horror, sharing just how special spookiness has been to their faith, their creativity, and their enduringly radical hope. Even if you think you hate “horror” as a genre, we’ll dive into what our traditions tell us about fear, loneliness, and the potential power of connection and community to counter the continuing real-life horrors that surround us.

And if you’d like to play a little dress-up, our little ones will be doing a costume catwalk at the start of the service and all are free to join in the Halloween fun!

NOVEMBER QUEER SPIRIT @ JUDSON | 🌿QUEERING KIN🌿 | Tuesday, 11/3 @ 7pm on Zoom | Link in Bio + Stories! In November, we call on light to face the dark, and to tend to the lost and the dead. Who are we bound to, by blood or deed? Who do we claim as kin, and why? Where do we boundary belonging, even as our hyperconnected worlds expand exponentially? How do we grow our circles of care from the biological to the logical and beyond, to all of humanity and our other-than-human beloveds? Kinship is both celebrated and contested across the month’s traditions: All Souls, Día de los Muertos, Diwali, Sigd, the Bahá’í Twin Holy Birthdays, Guru Nanak Gurpurab, Loy Krathong, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and here in the U.S., Election Day and Thanksgiving — two days that invite, if we let them, interrogation of where our allegiance, belonging, and commitments truly lie.

Join @revmicahb and @trans.rites for an hour of queered lectio zoom divina: sacred text and music from wherever curiosity and creativity has wrestled with our themes. You are welcome, wherever and whenever you are.

Upcoming dates:
🌿 Nov 3 — Queering Kin
⚙️ Dec 1 — Queering Labor
Stay tuned for our 2027 dates!

🕯️ REMEMBERING REV. DR. ROBERT SPIKE 🕯️
SUN OCT 18 @ 11am
with Rev. Micah Bucey @revmicahb + Special Guests
Judson Meeting Room + judson.org/worship

On the 60th anniversary of his murder, Judson remembers Bob Spike – one of its founding fathers (senior minister 1949-56), American civil rights hero and victim of a despicable homophobic police-led smear campaign. Joining the service will be Amb. Andrew J. Young, himself a legendary civil rights leader and one of Spike's closest colleagues in the 1960s. Inspiring freedom songs and prophetic words will lift our spirits as we celebrate a man whose courage and vision helped make our freedom-loving Judson community a living reality.

🔥 Resistance is necessary. But persistence? Persistence is an art! And persistence is how we build a future beyond the systems we’re fighting today.

❤️‍🩹 This regime wants us exhausted, isolated, and focused only on the immediate struggles. But the vision we’re fighting for is bigger than this moment, this march, or this administration. The long game is about what we will build…together!

✊🏽 That’s why we need places and spaces to dream bigger, learn from one another, strengthen our movements, and imagine what comes next.

🎟️ Join us at Freedom Rising Conference on October 23-25 in New York City or online. And if you’re an activist, organizer, student, or artist, please send us a DM or email us at conference (at) middlechurch (dot) org and we will send you a special discount code.

🎉 We’re do grateful to our friend and partner, @revmicahb from @judsonchurchnyc, for this incredible word recorded at last year’s conference.

🐶😻🦜 BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS 🦜😻🐶
SUN OCT 11 @ 11am
with Rev. Micah Bucey @revmicahb
Judson Meeting Room + judson.org/worship

This Sunday, October 11, Judson's 11am service will expand its already extravagant menagerie welcome by inviting non-human animals to join us, so feel free to bring your favorite animal companion to bless the space and to be blessed.

For everyone, especially those unable to bring a pet companion or those who have lost a beloved pet, there will be a table ready for photos and equipped with paper and crayons to help create images of all of the animals who have touched our lives.

There will also be a section reserved for those who would like to stay as far away as possible from our visiting pet friends, so please join, even if being side-by-side with a non-human friend isn't exactly your cup of tea.

And if you’re joining online, bring your pets or a photo to the screen with you!

For questions, email Micah at mailto:micah@judson.org
