Celebrating 8 years as a contributing writer for @forbes ! Happy Forbes-versary to me 🎉
And last year I crossed the 500 articles milestone 🥺🙏🏾

These last eight years have definitely been a whirlwind. 🌪️
From getting flown around the world to give talks related to my articles on workplace equity to receiving unaliving threats while 🤰🏽, it’s definitely been a journey. 😮‍💨

One things for sure and two things for certain though; all the NOs and closed doors I endured brought me to this exact moment and I don’t take that for granted.

If you’re in the trenches wondering when things will look up and a door will open for you, keep putting yourself out there, follow your intuition and never stop believing in yourself.
Optimism, especially in the midst of opposition and defeat, will take you far. ✨

And shout out to the one and only @ruthumoh for amplifying my writing while you were at Forbes. I’m forever grateful to you for your support 🥹💕

[Video Description: Me describing my eight year journey as a Forbes contributing writer, from getting rejected by Forbes’ Coaching Council to getting asked by an editor to write for them, to my articles providing speaking and consulting opportunities and also criticism and backlash, and also getting promoted to senior contributing writer and completing 500 articles.]

Zachary Nunn shared one of the most insightful thoughts about Call and Response that I've heard yet in media and podcast interviews on a recent episode of Living Corporate.

This book unapologetically centers exactly what many people are now afraid to say--a single word.

Whole organizations have changed their focus, stripped the word from their names, de-emphasized, stricken it from usage because, well, it can get you into trouble, fined or something.

Not here.

And to all to entities and leaders who have thrown their names, weight, budget and influence behind this book...I can say, it's easier to stand up and be bold when you're not alone when you stand.

Many people and entities have retreated.

I just don't see what that has to do with me; after all, what kind of leadership authority would I be if I wasn't also courageous?

Good leadership is good leadership no matter where it comes from.

And as my GenZ daughter would say, "PERIOD." 🤏🏼

I can see a Living Corporate X Leadership Revival Framework happening, Zachary.

We really should discuss.

I'm serious.

Studies in positive psychology show that one certain way to find your purpose is to serve people. Through that service, you will tap into empathy which will place you firmly on your path to finding your passion.

Next stop: PURPOSE.

This is the hallmark of a heart-centered leader, and we all know one when we have the rare chance to be lead by one.

Heather Dowdy is one of those leaders, and she was fortunate because she found her purpose at at very young age in the Black Church; and when you find it young, the motivation and drive to pursue that purpose is unrelenting, according to the research.

I shared a bit of her story recently on Living Corporate with Zachary Nunn as she shares it in my new book Call and Response.

Are you a heart-centered leader? Would you like to know how you might be able to build muscle in this area? Take the assessment based on the Leadership Revival Framework (inspired by the book) to find out and I'll share the results and an analysis with you directly. Comment ❤️ and I'll DM you the link to the assessment!

We did indeed speak in-depth about the dire challenge of employee engagement in the current work environment and how it will take heart-centered leadership to restore trust, but we also got into the layers embedded in the title of my newest book, Call and Response.

It's a work song.
It's a work song.
It's a work song.

But you don't hear me, though.

Living Corporate with my friend, the amazing Zachary Nunn (who is also a licensed minister) is streaming now. Go take a listen to this incredibly timely conversation.

And yes... no shrinking. 👏🏼
