Dawn with the daisies: savouring the cool of dawn this morning settled among the Ox-eyed daisies in the field that are such a favourite for so many insects. I’ve been gradually extending the wildflower meadows each year - scarifying and sowing with seed collected mainly from daisies like these and the yellow rattle that is doing so much of the work in knocking down the grasses, opening the ground for other wildflowers to grow.

Enchanting moment with a goldcrest whose angelic chimes rained down upon me from the heights of the cedar in the field - with additional audio from El the cat and a chiffchaff 🙏🐈‍⬛

Scrublands: been busy in the field over winter securing more substantial borders for the wildflower meadows. These natural edges should also help to thicken up the patches of scrub for spring songbirds. I’ve been cutting down the lowest branches of the young oaks and then using them to create a dividing frame up which brambles can grow, along with any blackthorn and rambling roses to help make that scrub good and solid. The Renaturing project rolls on. 🌳🪲🌻🌸🐝🦉

View from the Field Chair: touches of autumn have been nudging me to lift the scythe from its hook in the shed. Scything is such a fine way to pass an hour - cutting back the wildflowers and grasses (and the secondary blackthorn suckering up from the hedge), then halting to sharpen the blade with the whetstone - that chiming of stone on metal that seems to ring through time - and back to the ground, to the here and now ; opening the space, mowing the meadow so that next year there will be spring flowers once more.

Kinjitsu, the art of joining things with gold to remind us to celebrate the flaws and missteps of life.

This fox asked for this design and it was a joy to create these for her, this design holds a special place in my heart 💖

Just because it's flawed, doesn't mean it's not perfect

Wedgewood inspired nails

Though, in all honesty, it was a complete coincidence! This fox and I came up with an idea for her nails, and it wasn't until they were complete that we realised what they reminded us of!
