home / host

Part of State of Wander at Paleis Het Loo, Apeldoorn, a contemporary art exhibition running 17 April to 27 September 2026, curated by Anna Bitkina, with ten international artists responding to the palace’s collection, archives and grounds.

home / host is a new creature on the palace grounds, animated through a system of hydraulic actuators. The work examines hospitality and its opposite: who is admitted within the walls of a former royal domain, and who is kept out. Animals, plants and people that cross those borders regardless.

Shown alongside work by Gayatri Kodikal, Caitlin Berrigan, Marianna Maruyama, Antye Guenther, Jan Christian Schulz, Terike Haapoja, Bryony Dunne, Clemens Driessen & Teodora Cecilia Buccilli, and Rob Voerman.

State of Wander is on until 27 September.

Practical SFX presentation with Rolf te Booij (NL)

July 16, 7:00 PM
Secția Forme (Universul building, 2nd floor)
Free entry

Ever wonder how sci-fi creatures and film props go from sketch to screen?

We are pleased to invite Rolf te Booij, a practical SFX artist, for a presentation of his extensive and complex work of crafting exceptional, realistic props for creative industries. Rolf will share what really happens behind the scenes of filmmaking, the process of developing creatures, and the workflow with traditional and modern moldmaking, casting, and sculpture techniques. A rare chance to hear directly from someone who creates the magic you see on screen. The offline presentation will be held in English.

Rolf te Booij is the founder of RFX Propmaking, specializing in creating high quality practical special effects for the film, theater, and design industry from around the world. Together with his team he has worked on a wide range of difficult projects, from special make-ups, character design, till animated sculpture. Rolf has collaborated with companies such as Netflix, for TV series as “Wednesday”, “Dark”, “3 Body Problem”, made creatures for Oscar nominated films as “The Secret Agent” directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, “Witte Wieven” a feature film by Didier Konings, and many more.

Beside the studio, Rolf is leading an academy, dedicated to sharing the complex craft of practical special effects. The programme includes deconstructing stories and building working frames for the future creatures, modeling, mold making, make-up FX, animatronics and more. The academy regularly invites leading industry artists to share specialized knowledge across these techniques.

Thanks a lot to Secția Forme: @alinatulum @karengrigorean, for hosting and supporting the event.

home / host is part of State of Wader curated by @anna_bitkina
On show in @paleishetloo Apeldoorn over the summer.

The impulse behind the work connects to a broader shift, born from the growing awareness that we live in a world no longer fully understandable. So much of contemporary reality operates through invisible digital infrastructures like networks, sensors or remote systems that shape our environments from above, below and beyond perception. Yet these technologies are not separated from us but deeply intertwined, we coexist with them. In this case what appeared to be a neutral building turned out to be a site of continuous automated decision-making, most of it operating entirely outside the awareness of those who inhabit it.

Europe, go make films outside Europe ❤️🔥🎥 !!!

We made a film that was almost impossible to make 🫠

For that I say Inshallah, Aishik and تشکر زیاد

After finishing this film :

* a dozen new people I will love and visit for the rest of my life
* another country I will miss and keep coming back to Tunisia
* through stories, conversations and experiences, I discovered Afghanistan. I wish for the fall of the Taliban because I feel it is a place where people are free from extreme consumerism and still have strength and pride
* my brain is full of references, patina, colors and ideas on how to create something from nothing. I will use them for the rest of my career in film
* I experienced total peace with my crew and saw their artistic talent, great taste and friendship
* once again, while making a difficult film, I reflected on my own life, worked through old pain and realized that I already live in paradise and should be grateful for what I have

This film is important and beautiful, and these are the only kinds of films I want to make

my heart chose a film about Afghanistan, and I do not regret it for a second 🔥🎥❤️

Congratulations to everyone who survived this battle 😎🤪🔥🎥

I already miss you all HABIBI ❤️
