Passing narrow gauge loco 'Black Prince' on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway on Sunday 18/10/26 on the last day of their autumn steam gala. The weather was truly awful but the crowds still came and the trains were full. Several locos were running, there were double headers and at the end of the day,a six loco train ran from Hythe to New Romney.

A shout out to the drivers, guards and platform staff who endured the elements on the day and everyone at the railway who worked hard to make it a great day despite the rain.

Visiting loco ' Northern Rock ' at Dungerness en-route to Hythe on the @rhanddr on Sunday 18/10/26. The loco was visiting from the @rersteam for the rh&Dr autumn steam gala.

Later, in what was a challenging day weather wise, Northern Rock would head a six loco train from Hythe to Romney as a grande finale to the weekend.

The narrow gauge loco was named after it's main sponsor, The Northern Rock Building Society which famously collapsed in the 2007 global financial crisis.

@rhanddr loco Dr Syn with loco Winston Churchill at Hythe after bringing a double headed non-stop service from Dungeness on Sunday 18/10/26. Both locos would remain in place while 4 locos were attached to the front to form the autumn steam gala finale service to New Romney.

Dr Syn was built in 1931 by The Yorkshire Engine company. It is designed in a distinctive Canadian Pacific North American style, featuring a larger drivers cab and an American themed appearance.

The loco is named for Roger Thorndike's fictional Romney Marsh smuggling vicar.

Narrow gauge locos Black Prince,Green Goddess and Samson at Hythe on the @rhanddr preparing for the grand finale of their autumn steam gala on Sunday 18/10/26. The three were joined by visiting loco Northern Rock which headed the 4 loco train to New Romney. Two other locos, Winston Churchill and Doctor Syn were also at the rear of the train.

Plenty of steam and lots of whistling were to come, the weather was awful but the little carriages were packed, plenty of spectators along the way braved the wind and rain to watch the spectacle.

Pulling into Hythe at the @rhanddr passing locos ' Green Goddess & Samson on a double header service on the final day of their autumn steam gala.

The 15" narrow gauge railway runs for 13.5 miles from Hythe to Dungeness via the seaside towns of Dymchurch and New Romney with two more stations at St Mary's Bay and Romney Sands. The trip from one end to the other takes around an hour,New Romney is the heart of the railway where you'll find a museum and a model railway,it's also the depot so you may catch some shunt movements etc.

15" narrow gauge loco Black Prince pulling into Dymchurch on the Romney,Hythe & Dymchurch Railway on a very wet Sunday, 18/10/26

The engine was built in 1937 by Krupp in Germany. It originally carried the name,Fleissiges Lieschen Which means Busy Lizzie in English. She saw some action in Köln before being put into store. A number of years later the loco came to the RH&DR, after some minor alterations to the drivers seating and a repaint it entered service as Black Prince, and the rest is history.

Loco Green Goddess having a quick spin on the turntable at Hythe on The Romney,Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Sunday 18/10/26.

The narrow gauge loco is 1/3 size and was ordered in 1924, designed by Henry Greenly. Greenly based the loco on Nigel Gresley famous A1 class locomotives of the LNER. The loco was actually ready before the RH&DR opened so it was tested on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

The loco is a 2 cylinder 4-6-2 Pacific, weighs 8 tons and 10cwt, it's 27' 7" long

Once Green Goddess had been turned, she joined 4 other locos to pull a train from Hythe to New Romney with an additional two locos at the rear. This was the finale of the railways' autumn steam gala. It was certainly an impressive sight!
