POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At RH Reproductive Health & Kinetic Club we support pregnancy and fertility challenges daily.

Infertility affects roughly 48.5 million cases worldwide. IVF works for many people but is expensive and not equally accessible. Exercise is low cost and non-invasive, but the research has been scattered across many separate reviews.

We've summarised the key points of this umbrella review: a review of the reviews: "Exercise intervention improves fertility outcomes in females and males: an umbrella review of meta-analyses."

🏋🏻‍♀️ Exercise was linked with higher ovulation and pregnancy rates in females/ AFABs and better semen quality and partner pregnancy rates in males/ AMABs. While implantation and natural conception rates improved, the findings were insignificant.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Aerobic and combined training looked most beneficial, and moderate intensity seems to be the sweet spot. Energy balance matters, and the training programs varied too much to name an optimal dose.

👍🏽 The bottom line: Exercise can be a helpful adjunct therapy to fertility care and we need more specific trials, to ascertain the best "dose": frequency, intensity, type, and duration.

📢 NUTRITION TIP 📢

Short weeks, school holidays and long weekends can make it tricky to find the time to have healthy, wholesome, food prepped at home and ready to eat.

At our place Mondays are all about bulk prepping and on a short week we’ll make things really easy for ourselves:

🍠 2-3 trays of roast veggies
🥗 Fresh salad greens
🍗 2-4 days of protein (roasted chicken, slow cooked beef stew, tofu/ tempeh cooked and ready)
🫜Seasonal crudités for snacking throughout the day!
🌾Toasted mixed seeds to top all our meals

The goal is to maintain a healthy bodyweight, to maintain steady blood glucose levels, to fuel our daily exercise, to feel energetic throughout the day- both physically and mentally, and to feed a healthy gut microbiome!

It's never too late. 💪

For decades, exercise science built its guidelines almost entirely on male bodies. This first of it's kind meta-analysis & systematic review (126 studies, 4,019 women) asked 2 questions:

💙 What is the effect of upper & lower limb resistance training in women/ AFABs?

💚 Does age, training frequency, or training volume change the effect?

The researchers concluded that:
✅ Strength gains happened in both pre- and postmenopausal women
✅ Lean & functional increased, while fat mass decreased across all ages
✅ Menopause didn't blunt the response

The researchers found 2 gaps when they could not definitively answer some questions:
🔹 Little research could be found for females aged between 35-50 and >70 years old, highlighting the gaps, particularly for women & AFABs in the PERI menopause life stage.
🔹 Limited evidence was available for 1 or >4 training sessions per week, highlighting the gaps for low & high frequencies & volumes.

The takeaway messages:
🏋🏻‍♀️ Independent of age, consistent resistance training builds strength & reshapes body composition, generally.
📝 Individualisation remains important, over strict sex- or age-based distinctions.

I've been absolutely blown away by the response to the Neurodivergent Health Summit for Pracs - we sold over 30 tickets in just 24 hours, which is phenomenal!

Let's chat about one of the sessions that I'm really looking forward to.

@rhihardingham is an experienced naturopath, presenter, educator and author, focusing primarily on reproductive and gynaecological health - but honestly - does she even need an introduction? Maybe I should just say she's an ABSOLUTE LEGEND 👏👏👏

Fun fact: Rhi and I actually went to college together (SSNT alumni 2005). Over the last 20 years I've watched her become THE go-to practitioner and educator on women's/AFAB health and hormones.

More recently, she's also been down the rabbit hole of ADHD and neurodivergence, which is why we're in the best possible hands for this session.

Rhi's presentation will show you her take on the intersection of ADHD, oestrogen, dopamine and perimenopause. She will explain the interplay between the brain and hormones in a way where you will "get it."

You will leave with a deeper overall understanding, new tools to support your clients, and knowledge of how to work within an integrative healthcare team in order to best support your midlife ADHDers.

The session is delivered in neuro-affirming framing, positioning ADHD as a lifelong neurotype rather than as a pathology (we love that!)

The Neurodivergent Health Summit for Pracs is happening on Fri 20th and Sat 21st November, from 9am - 1:30pm each day.

(Yep - 2 half days to make it ADHD-friendly.)

<< Recordings will be sent out afterwards too. >>

For a full rundown of our speakers and topics, comment "PRACSUMMIT" below and I'll send you a link. ❤️

P.S. There's also an earlybird special on now - just add the code EARLYBIRD at the checkout to receive $50 off.

As an ACNEM member @acnem_education, the Australasian College of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine Annual Conference in Melbourne is always a highlight in my calendar. 🤍

It gives me the opportunity to refresh my knowledge, consolidate my clinical understanding, connect with treasured colleagues, and admire the expertise of so many incredible presenters.

What I love most about ACNEM is its commitment to collaboration. Doctors, Naturopaths, Nutritionists, Building biologists, Pharmacists, Acupuncturists and Researchers all coming together, learning from one another with respect & inspiration.

Each year the ACNEM Conference It is a beautiful reminder that healthcare is at its best when different disciplines work collaboratively.

A heartfelt thank you to Mikaila, Eloise, Di, Marta and the entire ACNEM team for creating such a thoughtful, high-quality event.

I left feeling refreshed, inspired and incredibly grateful to be part of this community.

What conference! 🙋‍♀️sooo …. Your gut, hormones, ovaries and environment are all in the same group chat… and apparently it’s really chaotic. 👀

Our takeaways from 2 days packed learning about hormonal health?

A few ACNEM takeaways still living rent free in our brain:

👉Your changing oestrogen can affect your gut microbiome… which means less microbes and could help explain the sudden bloating, constipation or food sensitivities that seem to appear in your late 30s and 40s. Also maybe connected to brain fog ?? @doctorsdata

Thanks @rhihardingham prezzi on Soy isoflavones … showed evidence that they may help soften some of the hormonal highs and lows of perimenopause… rather than simply “adding more oestrogen” they can act to modulate the roller coaster 🎢 of estrogen !

@homehealthdoc Microplastics and endocrine disruptors are everywhere… so stop heating food in plastic, rethink fragrance, and consider filtering your water. I loved 🥰 the line ….

“If you don’t filter your water, you will be the filter”

@drleahhechtman And your ovaries? They are doing far more than making eggs and the mitochondria of the ovaries impact soo much in our body. They are connected with metabolism, bones, brain, cardiovascular health and ageing.

The big message: your hormones are not working alone.

Your gut, environment, nervous system and metabolism are all part of the story.

Honestly… fascinating, slightly terrifying and very motivating. 😅🧠✨

Thank you @acnem_education for incredible integrative event! 😍

At Kinetic Club and RH Reproductive Health, we see how often exercise gets left out of the pregnancy conversation, and it's our bread and butter- so we put everything you need to know together in one place.

There's a national Australian guideline for exercise during pregnancy. 71% of pregnant people don't know it exists.

Swipe through for the top four guideline recommendations, and what the latest research adds: when exercise makes the biggest difference for mood/ depressive symptoms, why "perfect" was never the goal, and what's genuinely happening in the body when you move through pregnancy.

This is general information, not individual advice- everybody and every pregnancy is different, so bring your questions to your health professional or exercise specialist. 💚

Want support that's actually built around you? Our team is here for exactly that. At RH Reproductive Health, our practitioners specialise in pregnancy, IVF support, PMOS, endometriosis, and menopause; and at Kinetic Club, Nat works as an exercise physiologist, personal trainer, and Pilates instructor supporting females and AFABs across every life stage, including pregnancy.
