For Woojin Lee, Ph.D., teaching data analytics is also about teaching students how to tell the story behind the data.

In his Market Intelligence and Analytics course, he helps students learn how to assess the market, understand where a business stands against its competitors and explain what their findings mean.

“I also emphasize data storytelling so they can clearly explain what their findings mean for the business.”

What happens when something as fundamental as travel suddenly feels different?

For @rhtmutk associate professor Stefanie Benjamin, a brain cancer diagnosis changed her relationship with travel and with the idea of “wellness” itself.

In a new @travelandleisure essay, Stefanie reflects on what it means to travel, rest, and imagine the future while navigating life after cancer. Her perspective challenges the idea that wellness has to be about transformation or becoming a “better” version of yourself.

Sometimes, wellness can simply mean rest. Being present. And giving yourself permission to slow down.

@rhtmutk at the 2026 Tennessee Governor’s Conference on Hospitality and Tourism in Gatlinburg!

While at the conference, a small group of students from the Hospitality and Tourism Management program are getting the opportunity to learn from and connect with leaders across Tennessee’s hospitality and tourism industry.

Day two began with a conversation featuring former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Mark Ezell. According to Department Head Junehee Kwon, "Their discussion offered powerful insights into authentic leadership and the importance of making a meaningful difference through service." A group of eleven people stand smiling in front of a scenic mural depicting a foggy mountain landscape with lush greenery. They are dressed in business casual attire and wear conference badges. A bear statue is partially visible on the left.

DECA members visited the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for the Big Orange Fashion and Retail Day. They engaged in a Zoom session with three UTK alumni from the Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management programs, where they guessed their careers and asked questions to current students. After shopping at the VolShop, they toured the store and learned about the replenishment system. Members also attended an interview with the creator of Alter’d State, who shared her success story and provided gift cards to students. A lunch of sandwiches, wraps, chips, and cookies was served. Overall, it was a day filled with networking and valuable business insights. If students are interested in attending next year, they must be DECA members and pay the $10 trip fee.
