Some wounds are clear. You know what you lost. You know why it hurts.

The more damaging wound is the confusion. The relationship bends your map of reality until you start doubting your own perception, your own judgment, and your own capacity to love safely again.

That is why recovery cannot be reduced to “moving on.” You may also have to grieve the fantasy, the performance, the old self-story, and the culture that trained you to keep dancing while you were in pain.

The work is to stop fighting your way back into the same room that made you vulnerable. Choose a future that makes you less dependent, less performative, and more real.

If I had to recover from a narcissist again in 2026, I’d do it very differently. I wouldn’t rush strength or pretend I was “over it.” I wouldn’t intellectualise my pain. I’d admit the truth early: I was heartbroken, betrayed, and I didn’t feel safe to love or connect again.

Most people try to skip this part. That’s why they stay stuck. There’s real freedom in admitting defeat. And honesty speeds recovery up more than any technique ever will.

Grief first. Rebuilding later.

What’s ya soul sayin to ya is something I’ve asked myself many times in this life and although it’s always provided the right answer, in hindsight it seemed like the most challenging answer possible at the time, but thankfully I always listened. Thanks for letting me speak from within @richard.grannon and thanks for the difference your light makes in the world ✨💛✨
