On friday we premiered ‘Sophie Bramley: The Original Yo!’ At Soho House and it was such a special evening ✨

@sophiebramly is an incredible photographer who documented the birth of hip hop music in the 80’s with the most incredible photos - she was on the ground, in the scene, documenting everything as she went. She then went on to create and host the first Hip Hop show on TV, on MTV Europe. A show that the US team later picked up and took the world by storm. Somewhere along the lines, she was cut out out of the story, so I sat down with her to hear all about her story.

Back in April I spent a whole day hanging out with @sophiebramley filming this project, and she is just such a joy. Sophie was one of the first ever MTV presenters, and I was one of the last, so it was dope to exchange stories and see how many parallels we’ve had in our lives, not just from presenting but also in the way that we dressed, and how we both have dedicated large parts of our lives championing cultures were passionate about.

Big up to @mikekaufman who put this whole thing together and produced an amazing screening. Thank you for trusting me with this, I’m so pleased I could be a part of this amazing project!

Hopefully it will be available for everyone to see very soon ✨

Friday 18 September 2026: When we talk about pioneers in Rap & Hip-Hop, @sophiebramly needs to be far more central to that story. She documented the culture from its earliest days as a photographer, and in 1987 her MTV Europe show, Yo!, helped bring it to a far wider global audience.

I felt a huge surge of nostalgia at the world premiere screening. Sophie and I were both at MTV at the same time, and our paths crossed as fellow specialist-show producers, so it felt very special to see her story being told accurately.

Huge respect @mikekaufmanuk, another MTV alumnus, for taking it upon himself to make this documentary, @dolittlegenevieve producing, and @beccadeadly, another MTV presenter, for such a fantastic interview.

Sophie’s contribution to Rap & Hip-Hop deserves to be recognised far more.
