And here we are with another "my favourite designs from...", paleodoc edition. After doing The Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Planet, there was no way we missed the Surviving Earth one. Heck it actually took us damn too long, but during August and the first half of September we've been super busy and just not in the mood to make such post, and we decided to wait and rewatch the whole show anyway. As with Prehistoric Planet, we had to extend the ranking beyond the top 10, and still it's not been easy to pick only 15 creatures- seriously, this series does have its flaws, but it knocked it out of the park with the animal reconstructions. So Here's our top 15! Do you agree with our takes, or there are yet other creatures that you feel deserved a mention here?

So, this is it. The day I hoped would never come is here. As per words of Darren Naish, there's no future ahead for Prehistoric Planet.

I know we are late to the party and this disclosure belongs to months ago, but no one has been talking about it on Instagram or YouTube, and I don't use Reddit that much, so I just found out about this ~1 month ago and didn't have time to post it until now.

Man... It's so painful to hear about this. Partly because this is a show I'd NEVER get tired of, partly because heck there was stil such a huge potential for future seasons. I know not everyone loved Ice Age, and some fans were straight up disappointed by it, but I still think it was a truly good and spectacular season, despite having its obvious shortcomings, and it had opened the door to so much possibilities for the series' future.

I don't want to sound as an alarmist or a clickbaiter, maybe there's still some hope, but Naish's tone sounded very... Definitive in his comment. Who knows, we'll wait and see Ig. In the meanwhile, I'll always be grateful for the three seasons we got💙💚

I had never stopped to think about the incredible bounty of Smilodon iterations we piled up in the last ~6 years, and with most of them being so fantastic, a tribute was inevitabile🐅 as for Spinosaurus, this plethora is especially satisfying, because despite its huge fame, we have seen so little of Smilodon in past documentaries (I think we only got it in WWB and Prehistoric Park? Oh and Prehistoric Predators, which doesn't count). Which killer cat is taking the crown in your opinion?

And which ones are yours? This is a topic where everyone can bring in a lot of different and equally intriguing points, so I'm thrilled to know if you would add these same creatures, or further new ones. I hope I don't sound ungrateful with this post- of course I'm happy with the overexpanding abundance of species we are getting in our paleomedias from the Jurassic franchise to the new documentaries and videogames, but for the fun of the game, I made a list of some of the taxa I'd LOVE to see getting more represented in the future. Some of them include animals that we never saw (or saw just once) in a product, others feature species that got portrayed a bit more, but that imo still need more spotlight. Hopefully, Surviving Earth will give us a hand with some of them!

Happy birthday to us!! (Thank you all so much for your dms people, I'm so happy that you all keep following us💙💚) This is a little row of some drawings we did over the last months. Far from perfect indeed, but they're the ones we are most satisfied of among the lot haha. Always striving to improve tho💪 The first three are made by me, last three by my bro, here are some brief descriptions of 'em:

-The first one is called The Hanging Tree, after the famous and absolute BANGER song from The Hunger Games, and depicts a Megantereon feasting on an unfortunate Australopithecus on a tree. I'm happy of the whole piece, it DEFINITELY needs to be improved but it turned out macabre and creepy as I had imagined it (my comparative anatomy professor will say fake);

-The second one is a big phylogenetic tree of Theropoda with a small drawing for each family, I had started it some months ago and as you can see I'm FAR from being done😂 I have dropped it, admittedly, but I will continue I promise;

-The third one is a rework of the Deadly Nadder from HTTYD. I've always thought that the dragon designs in the live action suck sh1t, so here I tried to picture it in a more realistic way that would look better😂

-The fourth one is Drogon, specifically from A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 5. My brother drew him as the juvenile individual he is in ADWD, hence why he looks more slender and lightweighted than the Godzilla-sized Drogon from the last seasons;

-The fifth one represents two dragons my brother made, that were inspired by... Lizards! He thought that, while we often think about dragons as more archosaur-like reptiles, it could have been interesting to imagine them as more Squamate-based (he referenced iguanas and such); imo they look beautiful but he will 100% say that they still need some fixing;

-The last one is an animal imagined by my brother for a project with a friend of ours, where we had to imagine some creatures in a dystopic world. That one is a desert roaming ungulate, with all the adaptations for enduring such an environment (the inflating sack in the nose was genius of him)

Hope you enjoy them!!!
