I put down the things that were holding me back and started using my mind, and little by little—with the right support—I started moving forward without even realizing how far I’d come. 🎬🙏🏽 Learning the business, logistics, and work behind filmmaking has shown me how much really goes into bringing something together. To be here at Cal State Long Beach studying Cinematic Arts is something I never even imagined for myself. 🖤💛 I’m grateful to everyone who welcomed me, believed in me, and helped me get here—and now I’m looking forward to what I can build and how I can give back. 💯👑

Big shout-out to my friend @mannyg_562 🙌🔥 We met a few years back, and one thing we’ve always shared is our journey through sobriety, recovery, and growth. 💯🙏 We’ve both come a long way, including on social media, but today was about something even bigger — education and opportunity. 🎓🎬

I got to bring Manny out to Cal State Long Beach 🖤💛, show him around the bookstore, check out the dining halls, and give him a little taste of campus life. I’m looking forward to bringing him around more as talent while I continue growing as a producer in Cinematic Arts. 🎥🎞️

Great day, great energy, and grateful for how far we’ve both come. 🙏🔥 Shout-out to Cal State Long Beach, Beach Shops, and my friend Miles! 🏫🖤💛 Much love to Manny G — more to come! 🎬🚀 #ogscrapking #justicescholars #hitthegymnotthepipa #csulb #csulbasi

I met Dr. Jesse at @lbcitycollege a few years ago. I saw a lot of myself in him, and over time, I’ve been blessed to call him a friend.

We all face ups and downs, but Jesse keeps growing and moving forward. I’m grateful he continues to be part of our community. We give God all the glory—anything is possible.

Congratulations on earning your doctorate, @educated_foolio You’re a real winner, my friend.

Standing next to a real Vietnam-era helicopter made me think about everything I’ve been learning in history.

So many young men went to Vietnam believing they were serving their country during a time when America was consumed by the Cold War and the fear of communism. But the burden of that war was not shared equally. Poor and working-class young men, including many Black and Brown men, were disproportionately sent to fight, while people with money, education and connections often had more opportunities to receive deferments and avoid the war.

Donald Trump, for example, received four student deferments and later a medical deferment during the Vietnam era.

What hits me even harder is what happened when so many veterans came home. Some returned carrying wounds nobody could see—trauma, PTSD, addiction and struggles that America was not prepared to understand or properly address.

This history is personal to me. My father came home from Vietnam addicted to heroin, and that trauma and addiction didn’t simply stop with him. It reached into the next generation and became part of my own life and my own battle with addiction.

That is why I am grateful for education and for professors who teach us to look deeper than the surface. History has helped me understand that war doesn’t only affect the people on the battlefield. Its consequences can travel through families, communities and generations.

I honor the Vietnam veterans who served and sacrificed. Many of them were young men making decisions inside circumstances much bigger than themselves.

The more I learn history, the more I understand my own history.

Last night was DIFFERENT. 🔥 I’ve been blessed to experience some legendary shows, backstage moments, and green rooms over the years, all thanks to solid people like @livelaevents @fkoapresents @pharoe13 @radio_lbc @jjlbc1 @relickbeats @peterpromoter and the homies who stayed consistent from backyard boogies to major stages.

But them corridos? Whole different energy. I don’t even speak Spanish like that, but I felt every damn song. 😂 That sold-out crowd turned the whole place into a real fiesta. Growing up around Long Beach cantinas, that vibe felt familiar—but seeing it on that level was something else.

Never sleep on the corrido scene. Them boys know how to put on a SHOW. 🇲🇽🔥 One for the books.

Does anybody else ever struggle with this? At 50 years old, I don’t want education to make me feel like I have to become someone else just to belong—I want it to help me grow into a wiser, stronger, more educated version of who I’ve always been. I’d really love to hear how others feel.
