{ with the world crumbling around us, hold onto those who make your heart sing, your soul soar and your laugh echo through the universe.

Platonic love has been a term I think I first saw via @yallaroza and it’s stuck in my mind and heart since. It’s an underrated love and one that has seen me through the hardest times.

When we frolicked in these flowers and took pictures, the thoughts in our minds were around platonic love. For each other, for our other dearest friends.

Platonic love is worth fighting for and investing in, when things get tough.

Platonic love is a sacred love 💗

Look out for a BTS joyful & silly video we’ll share @ridaandrabya soon 🌿💖 }

I cannot tell you how magic it feels when me and this wonder human get together and create! Whether it’s silliness or photo shoots or mini movies or food! Whatever it is, it feels magical with youuuu. I love you Rabya @sheflourished_ !

{ AD ~ TOYO, Time On Your Own. Making time for myself was something I found very hard in early motherhood. I didn’t feel like I could quantify time to just do things that brought me joy and back to myself. After all, my little loves brought me so much joy!

But as motherhood wore in, so did I. Finding time for *just* me, to bring me back to myself is so important. Even more so during lockdowns when I had very little time on my own.

I’ve partnered with @cricut_uk who sent me this amazing little machine, the Cricut Joy! And it certainly is joyous. I’ve learned a new skill, something my geeky heart loves! Also being able to make something meaningful for friends and family, I love and miss fills both my heart and feels good for my mind.

The panoramic isn’t over yet and I’m still yet to see some of my most cherished people. So, I took the time to make some cards and write to them for now.

How do you TOYO?

If you haven’t already heard or read about the #farmersprotest , then please swipe across to these slides and explore the wealth of information, stories from the heart and artwork that highlight the protests that are taking place.

I can’t add much more than I hate the supremacist Modi government. Make no mistake, it’s the same evil, different face.

#IStandWithFarmers not because of the panjabi blood that runs through my veins but because they are showing us how we need to turn out and demand change. People have walked and cycled for hundreds of miles. All the while showing such grace, strength, wisdom and community spirit.

It’s inspiring and sad all at once because they shouldn’t have to but we can see the world over how supremacy is destroying the lives of the folks who do the most, who give their all to give us what we often take for granted.

{ “ I am your friend. a soul for your soul. a place for your life. home. know this. sun or water. here or away. we are a lighthouse. we leave. and we stay”

I’ve been stuck for words to accompany these pictures, so I borrowed some from the great @nayyirah.waheed

These last few months, I’ve been drawn deeper and deeper into the depths of my culture, identity, ethnicity and closer to friendships where I feel safe to explore those freely and vulnerably.

Rabya was always a lighthouse for me. Yes we drifted apart for a few years but only because we were growing up in different cities. As soon as we got in touch again, it was like that gap had never happened. In fact the last few months of not being able to see each other has felt a lot longer than those awkward adolescent years we missed.

Frolicking in a field of flowers for a few hours was a tonic. There hadn’t been much planning beforehand but we turned up, got dressed in the fields, fixing each other’s hair, tikas and adjusting a dupatta here and saree there.

We really hope you enjoy all the pictures from this photoshoot. It’s a celebration of what we can achieve together, of what we are yet to do and our roots.

Plussssss....Swipe to the end for a little intro snippet of our Spill The Chai podcast too! Eek! It’s been produced by the wonder that is @lucylucraft (also occasional co-host) and the artwork is by the lovely @heyimsakina !! } A series of pictures in a sunflower field with Rida and Rabya. Pops of yellow of the sunflowers and greenery can be seen. We are holding a pink and yellow dupatta in the air. Laughing.

{ We found all our wedding memorabilia this morning. We found our “Book of Plan” which had all the little things we’d gotten inspiration from and hoped for, the venues we looked at and pages of songs we could use for wedding day! Oh and Chris’s neatly written out vows which were so succinct and sweet. ⁣
⁣
We found my floral crown which is dried but looks so pretty ! And all the cards that people gave us! It really made me feel so grateful to all our friends and family who helped make our epic three day event the celebration that it was! Not just by being there! But to our parents who helped financially and our friends who helped emotionally and physically! My bridesmaids who were an epic help on the wedding day (I found the to do list which was kinda long!)but they also made and printed our invites and order of services at their respective unis for us 😆 and you know, I don’t know if I ever truly showed the gratitude that they all deserved for everything they did and do for us even now! ⁣
⁣
Also we found our order of service and I’ve shared it up in stories. The readings we chose are still beautiful to me! We chose Elizabeth Barrett Brown’s Sonnet 43 and Pablo Neruda’s Sonnet 81. ⁣
⁣
The readings felt really important to me, more than the first dance because it felt like the words that would be uttered whilst we were being wedding in the presence of our loved ones, would bind us and be with us always. ⁣
⁣
We’ve now been thinking about how we’d like to celebrate this milestone post lockdown and we’d honestly love a huge gathering with our loved ones. I mean aside from a child free weekend away (we’ve not ever had one). I just want all the people that we love under one roof or the stars! And to dance and eat and laugh together. } Rida and Chris on their wedding day. There is a wall hanging in shades of pistachio and brown, desi style and orange and white flower garland on the wall. I think I’ll spend the rest of our time in quarantine just rearranging our houseplants and tending to them. I find it hugely anxiety easing and calming to potter around the house, moving from houseplant to houseplant, preening, watering, dusting and misting. ⁣
⁣
I’m still learning a lot about them and where they like to live in the house (or rather where they really don’t!). I have a couple of spots that act as my little nursery for houseplants to grow and then they’ll get repotted and housed somewhere else to grow out their days. ⁣
⁣
The girls LOVE helping, especially with watering and misting. We’ll sing little songs to them together and I’ll watch over them carefully so they don’t accidentally over water the houseplants. ⁣
⁣
Some quick tips to help your houseplants stay their best are: ⁣
Don’t over water: stick your fingers in the soil and seeing if the top two inches are dry or not, if they are, it’s probably a little thirsty! ⁣
Move your plants around the home, try the bathroom or my favourite spots are windowsills that don’t get direct sunlight! ⁣
Dust them! Gentle dust their leaves with a soft cloth to keep them shiny (something I’m working on!)⁣
⁣
Do you have any top tips to add? I know there are a few houseplant enthusiasts among us! ⁣
⁣

{ Hi, my name is Rida and I love telly. I used to devour books and now I devour telly and I’m ok with that. Do you watch much telly? If so, what do you like watching? ⁣
⁣
Last year, one of the best things I’ve watched by far was @poseonfx followed very closely by @rupaulsdragrace and hooray for the first @dragraceukbbc !! But I’ve watched a lot of good telly! ⁣
⁣
I love the escapism it provides, the stories told, the way it’s shot and edited and the costumes. I love the characters and whether you grow to love or loathe them, the journey they take you on and it’s ability to tackle hugely complex issues that are detached from reality ( Black Mirror anyone?) ⁣
⁣
My most guilty pleasure by a mile has been The Good Witch ! It’s cheesy easy watching and just makes me feel calm! Nothing bad ever happens and sometimes you need that right? ⁣
⁣
And recently I fell head over heels for @maiseltv ! It’s laugh out loud funny, endearing and just everything you want in a show about life (including a fantastical wardrobe of dream dresses and uff the apartment and that whole bit in Paris! ) ⁣
⁣
Are series taking over films do you think? I’ll be starting season 2 of Sex Education this weekend but worry not, I’ll be leaving my sofa and going on a little countryside walk too! It’s all about some kinda balance right? ⁣
⁣
Happy Friday folks! #memyselfandportrait #lightinspired }

I interrupt autumn, with a little summer from Monchique or magic mountain as it may have been known when it was named thousands of years ago. A mountain of wisdom.⁣
⁣
I am definitely feeling the magic; the sun, warmth, fresh air and that view! There is something so healing and grounding to be in the presence of such majestic nature. ⁣
⁣
Wishing you a blessed Friday ⁣

Allow me to introduce a lovely partnership with @iconic_lights who sent us this sweet cloud lamp. It’s actually customisable because you can paint it however you like! But I quite liked it in its original cloud like colour 😍 ⁣
⁣
It has a gorgeous warm glow, perfect for helping to create a cosy calm, ready for bedtime stories. Did you know warm light is recommended for night lights because they’re meant to remind us of the womb? And whilst it’s been a fair while since they were in my womb, lol, I do think there’s some sense in that. ⁣
⁣
At bedtime they always manage to squeeze an extra story or a few from us! And whilst it can be annoying, it’s kind of sweet. I love that reading is part of their routine. I always loved falling asleep to the sound of someone reading me story even as a grown up! Pre-kids Chris used to read Harry Potter to me! Ha! ⁣
⁣
Anyway, I digress! Up in stories I’ve shared the link for a little IGTV video of our Sunday bedtime routine. We bath the girls once a week, unless they get particularly mucky, as I feel it’s best for their skin. I love making bath time special with a nice bubble bath, bath bomb or even salts and dried petals. ⁣
⁣
Then into fresh sheets and pyjamas! Bliss 🥰 ⁣
Dalia is the fidgety one, Zora usually falls asleep pretty easily. Dalia likes to talk to herself until she falls asleep, which isn’t always ideal when sharing a bed with your big sister who is trying to sleep. Often Dalia sneaks downstairs after bedtime stories and curls up next to me on the sofa and falls asleep whilst I chill (aka browse IG obvs!) Tell me below how you do bedtime and what are your favourite smooth bedtime tricks?! And before I forget, if you share your bedtime routine with the hashtag #BedtimesWithIconicLights you could win a gorgeous hamper of goodies to make bedtime that much more dreamy! 💫 } Two girls in bed, both wearing a maroon set of pyjamas with a sweet woodland print. There is a canopy draped behind them and a cloud lamp on the wall. Dada is reading them a bedtime story.
