POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This time a week ago, we crowded into the Botany View Hotel for SHOT ON SHIT!

But we wouldn’t be able to do it without…

S.O.S is supported by our prize partners @umbrellaentertainment, @unexpectedguestdistillery, and @ritz_cinema and was made possible by the Protostars program @blackbird.foundation

Our venue team killed it, helping the flow of human traffic, getting us all seated and ready to party.

Our beautiful jury nailed the brief, both in the judging and the outfits🤩
Thank you to @whoiskrispy, @rippergently, @donlan.matthew, and interstate floating head @nickannas

GOD, WE LOVE MOVIES!

We were seriously impressed by every single entry. We had such a fun time watching every single film, and would do it again (thanks to our DVD’s!)

LOOK AT YOU SEXY PEOPLE!

Thanks for loving this shit as much as we do.

The Botany View Hotel have been a dream to work with. We are so grateful they let us take over the whole pub to show some awesome movies!

Rhys; our weapon, the superstar behind the scenes, the brain AND the beauty.

Hire. This. Man.

OK BYE WE LOVE YOOOOOOUUUUU!

Save the date!! On Friday 13th November, Miya Miya Film Club turns two!!

Across two years, Miya Miya has hosted 30 events, and together we've raised and donated over $62K for causes and communities we care about.

For our second birthday, we'll be showcasing some of the best new cinema from SWANA filmmakers here in Australia and across the greater SWANA diaspora. From Dharug land to Sudan, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Iraq, the UK, Norway and beyond, this is a celebration of stories that speak to the breadth and diversity of our communities. There'll be stories of love, friendship, family, identity, queerness, absurdity, joy and everything in between.

Miya Miya exists as a small part of a flourishing Sydney film scene, and this year we're bringing together some of our best friends from across the city to celebrate. Each film will be introduced by a vital member of the Sydney film community, all of whom inspire Miya Miya Film Club in their respective practices, and all of whom continue to champion incredible stories, filmmakers and communities, and make Sydney a better and more creative place every day.

And what would a Miya Miya birthday be without food from our faves? @kocagozau will be slinging fresh gözleme, @smeed.almaamoul will be serving cinnamon tea and maamoul, and our favourite Camperdown girls, Eloise and Ivy, will be sharing their incredible homemade cookies.

Tickets will be on sale from Tuesday 13th October, with the films announced shortly after.

For now, save the date, tell your friends and come celebrate two years of your film club.

See you there ❤️

The 2026 Queer Screen Emerging Narrative Feature Competition Winner: TEST, directed by Sam McConnell, with a cash prize of $2500 AUD.

This year’s jury comprised Sydney-based writer and director Craig Boreham (Teenage Kicks, Lonesome), prolific Australian writer and director Alice Maio Mackay (The Serpent’s Skin, Our Effed Up World), and Ing Deickman, head of programming at Golden Age Cinema and founder of Pink Flamingo Cinema.

Jury Statement: “A well-realised and authentically told character study with a distinct point of view. We haven’t seen another film quite like Test.”
