We empower the next generation of water literate leaders.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Our *After the Rain* Summer Studio has wrapped, and we are still glowing from the magic these kids created. 🌧️🎶

This summer, @rippleeffectnola and @NewVoicesNewOrleans joined forces at @KIPPNewOrleans schools to bring students a one-of-a-kind program where science meets song. Kids dove deep into stormwater flooding and rain through hands-on science experiments, choir, and original musical composition.

The family celebration was absolutely unforgettable. 60 family members packed the room to watch students perform songs AND debut their own original compositions. The energy was 🔥.

This was a pilot year, and it showed us just how powerful this work can be. We can't wait to come back next summer, bigger and better.

A huge thank you to our funder, the NAS Gulf Research Program 🙏, for making After the Rain possible. And endless love to the students and families from KIPP Leadership, KIPP Believe, and KIPP Central City Primary who showed up to learn, create, and shine. 🌈

This is just the beginning.

This season, our singers have been diving—literally—into the science of song! 💧🎶

Through our partnership with @rippleeffectnola :The Water Literacy Project, water-science expert Claire Anderson (pictured) helped students explore how water shapes our incredible city, New Orleans.

From experiments to inspiration, it was an eye-opening experience our singers can’t wait to bring to the stage.

👀 Come see us perform for FREE:

⭐️ November 17th at 2:45pm at @kippcentralcityprimary

⭐️ November 19th at 5:00pm at Hynes UNO @hynescharterschools

⭐️November 21st at 12:30pm at @kippcentralcityacademy

🙏 A huge thanks to the @thenasciences and the Gulf Research Program for making this amazing opportunity possible!

The 2025/26 season is finally here, and New Voices New Orleans has exciting plans for our young singers!
This season’s theme is WADE IN THE WATER, which fuses song, science, and storytelling to examine water’s scared, economic, joyful, and sometimes destructive impacts on our city. In typical NVNO fashion, we engage in this rich theme to grow our singers' whole artistry, one that connects them to each other, and to the world around them. We are proud to partner with @rippleeffectnola to ground this work, and to embark on a season of learning together!
Our two “Main Stage” concert series at each of our partner schools (KIPP Central City Primary, KIPP Central City Academy, and Hynes UNO) are Fall 2025’s “Rain Brings Change” and Spring 2026’s “Gales of Song.” Each concert will prioritize locally-sourced repertoire arranged by Composer-in-Residence Allyssa Jones of the University of South Florida. Songs like Zachary Richard’s “Big River” and Irma Thomas’ version of “Another Man Done Gone” assemble to explore our theme in a child-centered manner, setting the stage for deep artistic engagement.
Meanwhile, let’s take a look down memory lane. In 2022 & 2023, our students first began learning about water and sediment diversion from the Mississippi River—another wonderful opportunity sponsored by our friends at Ripple Effect and @mondobizarroproductions—which was celebrated in our concert "Invisible Rivers."

Thank you to Fritz Embaugh (BArch ‘96) for giving the keynote lecture to kick off our All-School Workshop (ASW). Fritz reminisced through the many different eras of his architectural career—from his early architecture student experiences to then starting his own design-build firm @plusone_designandconstruction. We appreciated the musical interludes and agree that it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid Taylor Swift.

This year’s workshop theme—Business of Architecture: The Once and Future Practice—tackles the relationship between the education of future architects and the changing profession in which they will enter and eventually lead for decades to come.

For the next two days, our students will work with six regional practitioners who will use real-world RFPs representing a range of project types and scopes to guide integrated year-level student groups through a critical understanding of this necessary procedural aspect of business, while targeting the potentially creative aspects that yield unique and nuanced responses.

WORKSHOP LEADERS
James Catalano @____cicada
Terri Dreyer @nano_llc
Holly Gavenonis @kirkseynews
Bahareh Javadi @concordianola
Tim Maddox @demxarch
Madison Talley @tall.arch

The Workshop & Symposium will consist of two professional panels. Thursday’s panel, “Nuanced Pathways: Critical Pursuits in Practice”, takes a look at how trained architects may at one point in their career pivot to an allied discipline, using their degree and training for something other than traditional architecture practice. It will highlight transitions into the engineering and construction industries, production design for film, and the non-profit sphere. Friday’s panel, “30 Years of Practice: Looking Back, Looking Ahead”, targets veterans and next-generation leaders from Baton Rouge-based Legacy firms who will share insights on the evolution of local practices since the turn of the 21st Century and the challenges and opportunities they’ve faced as service-oriented businesses and design teams.

Thank you to Coleman Partners Architects for sponsoring this year’s workshop.
