Calling all home bakers and micro bakers! On Thursday, 10/22, we’re teaming up with River Valley Co-op for a free webinar.

We’ll take you behind the scenes to the stone mill at Ground Up Grain and the newly installed state-of-the-art roller mill at Coastal Queen, both here in Holyoke, Massachusetts. You’ll meet Andrea Stanley, owner of Ground Up Grain, Coastal Queen, and Valley Malt. As well as Tom Christie, our test baker at Ground Up Grain and Coastal Queen.

Andrea will share her perspective as a miller and highlight our partnerships with local farms and bakeries. Tom will teach us about the different flours produced at Ground Up and Coastal Queen, and which flour will be the best match for your specific needs. Whether you’re a home baker or run a micro bakery, you can help create a resilient and sustainable food system by reaching for locally milled flour produced from locally grown grains.
Bring all your questions about grains, flour, and baking!

Register through River Valley Co-op using the link in our bio. And you can order the full selection of Ground Up Grain and Coastal Queen flours online directly from the mill.

October is National Co-Op Month! We have been a worker-owned cooperative since we were founded in 2019, intentionally incorporated to be a model for a more democratic economy. It was important to us to take a stand against the imbalance of wealth and power in our society. Our workers are owners and decision-makers and share in the profits. There are lots of resources to support starting or converting to a cooperative. Contact @maine.coop and @coopdevinst for more info. Thank you to the many food co-ops that stock us, allowing customers to shop a co-op at a co-op!

It’s voting time! Hitchcock Center is nominated to be a Change for Change nonprofit at @rivervalleycoop for the month of October.

If you’re a Co-op member, we hope you’ll vote for us- right now! Voting ends September 28 at 8 PM.

Heres how it works: Each time you shop at River Valley Co-op, a friendly co-op cashier asks if you’d like to donate to Change for Change. This rounds your bill to the nearest dollar, with all of the change going to one organization in our community each month.

Each donation to Hitchcock Center supports our environmental justice programs, science education residencies in Western Mass schools, nature events for all ages, and our mission to educate and inspire action for a healthy planet.

Other October Nominees- orgs serving our community in areas of social justice, education, or environmental protection- are our friends at @theventureoutproject, @aoaalloutadventures, @massaudubonarcadia, and more.

To nominate Hitchcock Center, go to the Co-op’s customer service desk, or just fill out the quick form in our bio.
