AWARENESS IS PART OF THE WORK. Congratulations to NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL, winner of the Districts for Dignity™ Awareness Poster Award! We challenged our students not only to serve, but also to think about how they would use their voices to educate others about menstrual and postpartum equity. Northwest answered that challenge with creativity, intention and a message that caught the attention of our judges. Because changing a community doesn’t always begin with a huge action. Sometimes it begins with a message, a conversation, and students willing to say something others are still uncomfortable saying. Congratulations, Northwest! Keep using your creativity and your voices for dignity. . . . . . . . #DistrictsForDignity #NorthwestHighSchool #youthvoices #menstrualequity #PATESIFoundation

55 children. 12 years. A lifetime of love, and goodbyes. 💙 America needs more foster families. We also need to listen to those who have opened their homes: What would help them feel supported enough to stay? In Episode 3 of The F Word: America’s Foster Care Crisis, Rob Scheer sits down with Judy Wright to explore the joy, grief, and exhaustion of foster parenting. Judy and her late husband, John, fostered 55 children, many of them medically fragile infants and toddlers. She shares what she wishes they had known, how repeated goodbyes affected their family, and the lasting connections foster, birth, and adoptive families can build when it’s safe. Her memoir, Just Hold Her, recounts a 674-day placement caring for a medically fragile infant born without a pancreas. “It’s not love divided, it’s love in abundance.” — Judy Wright 💛 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts, or watch on the Comfort Cases YouTube channel or Spotify. 📖 Learn more about Judy and her book: https://justholdher.com/ What support do you wish more foster families had? Share your thoughts below. ⬇️ Next: Episode 4 explores the challenges young people face as they leave foster care and navigate adulthood. #TheFWord #ComfortCases #FosterCare #FosterParents

Volunteer of the Week: Lesley Robinson! 🎒 Lesley has been involved with Comfort Cases since the very beginning, bringing our mission to children entering foster care in Maine and beyond. She has packed and delivered cases, gathered supplies, and invited her community to help. In a story Lesley shared, she described delivering more than 60 cases, then heading out to buy supplies for the next ones. A stranger in line heard what she was doing and paid for the entire purchase. It’s a beautiful reminder of how Lesley’s care inspires care in others. Lesley, we are beyond grateful for the effort, love, and care you’ve given to children experiencing foster care. Thank you for helping us say No More Trash Bags and showing children that they matter. 💙 Read Lesley’s story: https://comfortcases.org/press/the-kindness-of-strangers/ Watch her talk about volunteering with Comfort Cases: https://www.mmctv.org/no-more-trash-bags-for-children-living-in-foster-care/ #VolunteerOfTheWeek #NoMoreTrashBags #ComfortCases #FosterCare

What if a child’s “bad behavior” is a response to what they’ve learned to survive? On this week’s Comfort Cases: UnPacked, Rob Scheer talks with childhood trauma expert Dr. Frank W. Putnam about the experiences behind behaviors adults may misunderstand—and how a caring, informed response can help a child heal. They discuss foster care, dissociation, the lasting effects of trauma, and why a safe home is the beginning of healing, not the end. 🎧 Listen at https://comfortcases.org/podcasts/, on Spotify, or on the Comfort Cases YouTube channel. Today, we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the histories, cultures, and living traditions of Indigenous peoples. At Comfort Cases, we believe every child deserves dignity and a sense of belonging. That includes honoring the people, stories, and communities that shape who they are. We invite our community to listen to Indigenous voices, learn from Indigenous-led organizations, and carry that respect beyond today. 💙💛 #IndigenousPeoplesDay #ComfortCases

The people behind the conversation matter. This November, during National Adoption Month, we’re bringing together seven voices from across the child welfare field to explore what it takes to create meaningful, lasting connections for children and youth. Today, we’re excited to introduce two of the voices who will help shape that conversation. Swipe to meet Dr. Rob Scheer, Founder & CEO of Comfort Cases, and Rita Soronen, CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation. Their experiences, perspectives, and passion will help us dig deeper into what it means to build connections that don’t just begin, but last. And this is only the beginning. Five additional panelists will join us for a powerful 90-minute conversation on Creating Lifelong Connections for Children and Youth. Tuesday, November 10 11:30 AM PT / 2:30 PM ET Virtual Swipe. Meet the panelists. Then join us for the conversation. RSVP kidsave.org/national-adoption-month
