Excited to share this Suchomimus run cycle! 🦖

This was a collaboration project with @robertfabiani_art @julian_johnson1234

I was responsible for the run cycle animation in Autodesk Maya.

@robertfabiani_art was responsible for the amazing Suchomimus model and textures.

@julian_johnson1234 was responsible for Suchomimus rigging.

I really enjoyed working on this project and bringing the Suchomimus to life!

🖌️ Commission Retrospective 🎨
———————————————
All the commission pieces I’ve done so far since I started my dino-painting journey. These were painted for @protopatch92 (who, if you couldn’t tell, is quite a fan of the Late Cretaceous Gobi Desert fauna 😄).
Painting small pieces like these is always a challenging but fun experience, requiring very steady hands and an attention to detail.
I’m always open to commissions, so please feel free to get in touch if you have any dinos that need painting! 🦖

Liopleurodon wasn’t a dinosaur, it was one of the most formidable marine reptiles of the Jurassic seas

This pliosaur lived around 165 million years ago, with fossils known from Europe, including England and France. The largest Liopleurodon were probably around 10 m (33 ft) long, far smaller than some famous TV reconstructions once suggested, but still enormous predators

Liopleurodon belonged to a group built very differently from long-necked plesiosaurs: a huge head, powerful jaws, sharp teeth and four strong flippers for moving through the water. It was among the biggest pliosaurs of the Jurassic and occupied the top of its marine food web

A newly described Liopleurodon ferox specimen from western France is one of the most complete post-cranial skeletons known for the species, giving scientists another rare look at the body of this legendary predator

If you saw a 10 m Liopleurodon coming toward you underwater, what would you do? 🌊

T. rex did not need long arms to dominate its world.

Latest research suggests its tiny arms may have evolved as a trade-off: as the skull became larger, stronger, and more deadly, the forelimbs became less important for hunting. Instead of grabbing prey with claws, T. rex relied on one of the most powerful bites in land-animal history.

Its arms were small, but not useless. The bones show strong muscle attachments, meaning they may still have helped with close-contact movements, balance, or gripping. But in the end, T. rex was built around its head — a massive weapon that made long arms unnecessary.

12 million years ago, Megalodon and Livyatan hunted the same oceans.

Megalodon reached close to 20 metres, its serrated teeth built to carve through whale flesh in a single pass. Livyatan carried a skull over 3 metres long, lined with teeth the size of forearms, used to seize and hold struggling prey.

Whale populations were expanding across warm, productive seas at the time. The supply of large prey allowed predators of this scale to evolve and thrive.

The visual effects behind this Lusotitan shot from our latest video. 🖥️🔥

Muscle jiggle physics were added to the existing walk-cycle animation, and dust was simulated driven by the velocity of the dinosaur's feet. Forces, such as wind as turbulence, were added for realism.

Each dinosaur has a different start frame and, most importantly, slight variations in speed (and color!). This was the most painful part of this process, to be fair. 😅
