(Rihanna voice) 🗣️ Work work work work work work!

Building a career on mission-driven work has always been a bit of a rollercoaster. But building one in this climate? Buckle up, buttercup.

Our new Issue Space podcast episode, “Who’s Working in Impact? Snapshot of a Shaken Social Sector” asks impact recruiter and friend of the Space @robertjayross from @cultivate_team — with 2025’s vast team and funding cuts, dramatic restructures, and political hostility….what even are the jobs out there for impact pros??

Spoilers:

💜 You’re not wrong if you feel like social impact job opportunities are in limbo
💜 But you’re also not in your search alone
💜 It’s extremely unclear if philanthropy will help close the gaps in impact work
💜 But there *are* forward-looking skills and roles that social impact employers are seeking
💜 And things org leaders are doing to support their staff through the worst
💜 Even knowing what we’re facing as a workforce, it’s not time to give up just yet.

This honest, supportive, and good-humored live chat serves real insight and hot takes about the social impact work landscape in 2025. If you’ve been looking around and wondering what happens to impact careers from here, this conversation is for you.

Catch the episode on YouTube or just about anywhere you stream your podcasts. (Links in bio for a head start 😉)

Sometimes you just gotta talk it out!!! 🗣️

We packed a room full of social impact professionals from business, advocacy, media, public health, and beyond to mingle and unpack what’s crazy about working through this moment and job market….and what’s possible when we draw on our collective knowledge of history, service, wellness, and innovation.

We laughed, we cried — it was a vibe!! 😎

Two new conversations from the night will drop on the #issuespace podcast, so you can revisit the gems we uncovered again and again. 💎 Watch this space for more.

It’s harder than ever to have a job in positive impact. Cuts, overwhelm, cultural noise — and we still have to get to the issues themselves. 😓🥲

We’ll never gaslight you. It’s hard — Really hard — to commit to a calling with so many challenges. But if you feel in your gut that impact is where you’re meant to be, now is the time to dig deep.

And if you need a little inspo… ✨✨

The Issue Space podcast invites real changemakers from all sectors and backgrounds into conversation to share their lived experiences of careers in social impact. Hear everything from personal motivations to rock bottoms on the job…and how to come together and stay sustained in the kind of work the world needs. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Available where you stream your podcasts — links in our bio. Have a listen, take heart, and keep your ambitions for positive impact alive another day. ❤️‍🔥

New York, October 2024: we fell asleep every night to the sound of surf, and went swimming with dolphins just steps from our Brighton Beach apartment. We soaked in a Russian Banya and almost snapped our necks on the Coney Island Cyclone 🎢. We fell in love with the neighborhood's Russian dumplings and hot-from-the-oven Finnish Rye bread. We snuggled all our friends' new babies. We sang spooky folk songs in an old Red Hook tavern by the sea. We disappeared into mesmerizing theater spectacles that will live in my bones forever. And we celebrated our new marriage all over again, barefoot and surrounded by persimmons and autumn leaves, with our circle of East Coast friends.

🗣️ We’re so excited to premiere the #IssueSpace podcast todayyyy!! We’ve got ✌🏾 two episodes streaming now and we’re covering a lot of ground...

Ep1 ✨ Identity & the Impact Pro ✨ What is it *really* like to have a professional identity that’s based on issues and values you care about — and are we putting way too much pressure on it? Social impact recruiter and leadership coach @robertjayross gives us some straight talk based on his role in almost 20k social impact job placements, while culture and politics journalist @marisakabas pops in to talk about political partisan dynamics in the space.

Ep 2 ✨ Pain Into Purpose ✨ In this chat with @think.rosie founder and professional storyteller @adrianne_wright , we talk through family legacy, fate and immigration, personal violations, and triumphant — and very public — storytelling as just some of the puzzle pieces that make up Adrianne’s professional impact journey. This is a personal and powerful one. See episode show notes for content warnings.
