A Daytona Beach must see for history enthusiasts is the Halifax Historical Museum on Beach Street.

Located in the circa 1910 Merchants Bank building, this museum covers everything from Jackie Robinson to Brownie the Town Dog.

Admission is $10. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10a until 4p. Free parking is available on Beach Street and behind the museum building.

Be sure to pop in next door to @abraxasbooks, my favorite bookstore in town. Jim has approximately 100,000 used books on all subjects. His history selection is excellent. He offers great prices.

The Ocoee massacre was a mass racial attack on November 2–3, 1920, in Ocoee, Florida, where a white mob killed dozens of Black residents and forced the entire Black population to flee. July Perry was hanged, more were shot, most victims were burned alive in their homes. Two years later, a similar attack would take place in Rosewood, Florida. #florida #floridahistory #blackhistory

Jackie Robbinson, The Black Baseball Legend Who Founded Bank.

Years after breaking Major League Baseball’s color line, Jackie Robinson entered the world of banking.
He co founded Freedom National Bank in Harlem to help Black families and businesses access the loans that mainstream banks often denied them.

This video is produced strictly for historical education and public awareness. The life and achievements of Jack Roosevelt “Jackie” Robinson are documented in verified historical sources including the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Wikipedia’s sourced historical record, the Jackie Robinson Educational Archives at UMass Amherst, and contemporaneous New York Times reporting. Robinson’s April 15, 1947 Major League Baseball debut, his tenure as vice president of Chock full o’Nuts, and his 1964 co founding of Freedom National Bank in Harlem alongside Dunbar McLaurin and William R. Hudgins one of the largest Black-owned banks in the United States, which operated until 1990 are documented across these sources.

All names, events, dates, and quotes presented in this video are drawn directly from these primary and secondary historical sources.
Every claim can be traced to a documented historical record.
Some visuals in this video are Al reconstructed or Al generated dramatizations created for historical storytelling purposes and are not authentic photographs of the individuals or events depicted.
We present this history accurately and respectfully, with no intent to incite, offend, or promote division of any kind.
We do not glorify violence. We share history so it cannot be repeated.

Credit: @beewithbritt Looking for meaningful things to do in St. Petersburg, Florida? Add @woodsonmuseum to your list. ❤️

I knew we were in good hands with Rattler Ms. Lynette leading the way! 🐍

What I appreciated most about our visit was learning more about the rich Black history of St. Petersburg while seeing why spaces like this are so important for preserving our stories.

Between the exhibits, interactive learning experiences and the Legacy Garden featuring Harriet Tubman, there was something for both the kids AND the adults to take away from the experience.

If you love Black history, are looking for an educational activity with kids, or simply want to learn more about the community you’re visiting, this is a St. Pete experience worth adding to your itinerary.

Because preserving our history ensures the next generation gets the opportunity to learn it. ❤️

I’ve lived here for years, and I’m still finding places that make me stop and say, “How did I not know this existed?”

This week’s picks include a billionaire’s mansion, a legendary stray dog, and a courthouse that’s honestly prettier than some castles.

Another three stops from 100 Things to Do in Daytona Beach Before You Die.

Which one surprises you the most?
