It’s a whole month into the season and we’re finally making turns. 🙌❄️ There’s still plenty of terrain to come, but after a slow start it’s fantastic to see skiers and snowboarders back enjoying the mountain.

You’ve gotta love bluebird days, cold air, even colder nights ahead and more fresh snow in the forecast… Winter is finally finding its rhythm. ❄️⛷️☃️🏂🥰♥️

Grateful for this pic of me from (I think!) 1977 in Zermatt. Those mountains and glaciers are impressive. Good to have photographer friends. Peter Bennett captured the moment.

Hey, it’s not my fault, ok? It’s what we wore in 1983. The good news is, stripes are back on boardshorts, seen it with my own eyes. At a guess, would say pic was taken in Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada when we were windsurfing there. Looks like a Windsurfer uphaul in my hand.

Sound on ! This is a quote from actor Pedro Pascal (Fantastic Four, The Last of Us etc.) talking about what it was like working on a set of Times Square “Your imagination is activated in the way it was when we were children. That is harder and harder to do as you get older…” And I believe that is what makes skiing so special. It serves no purpose, just being out in the mountains, alone or with friends, playing in the snow. How good is that? Do you agree? There can be transcendent moments too of course, experiencing the elements up close up, setting goals and challenges, conquering fear, but at the end of the day we just want to have fun. Here’s some more of Saturday with Mark, Marcus, Jonny and Elise.

I love this pic so many different ways, first, it’s an amazing capture by any measure taken by extremely talented photographer @ulfflower, that I’m the skier makes me very happy, and I even made the jacket I’m wearing, pretty cool what you can do with a second hand yacht spinnaker, some wadding, a bit of synthetic fleece and a few zippers, then for it to be published in my favourite ski magazine @powdermagazine, well how great is that. Just to top it off, naming Verbier as perhaps the world’s best ski area, and it certainly was at the time in my opinion, not just for the skiing but also for the people, both Swiss (many Valaisans are pretty cool and open) and foreign. I’m forever grateful to have skied there and been supported by @televerbier for the better part of ten seasons.

This is me skiing in Zermatt in ‘76 or ‘77. I get that I’m not wearing glasses - they were probably full of snow, and only downhill racers wore helmets back then, but what’s with no hat? Didn’t it feel cold in the seventies? I was about 20 or 21.

I’ve been talking a little about windbuff lately, probably better to show you — this is #thredbo #windbuff Whenever we get a storm, it’s usually windy, and if it stays cold like this week the wind picks up dry snow from the #kosciuszkonationalpark above and deposits it on leeward slopes. There is so much snow up high right now, most landmark rocks have disappeared! Time for my close-up. Thanks for the capture @431mrx And yeah, I know I often pick up my inside ski, I learned to ski in Ontario in the 1960’s OK?

Join me for a lap in #thredbo Bluff and True Blue — thanks @431mrx for the captures!

Cool thing about skiing is that it isn’t a team sport, but often enough you catch up with a bunch of people and share some turns, maybe a lap, an afternoon, or a whole day. In my experience the group is pretty fluid, coupla’ people might drop out to go for a coffee or a beer, others show up and join in, or possibly (often me!) someone might just go somewhere that no-one else wants to go, (tight trees anyone? how about these steep frozen moguls?) but next thing you know everyone ends up at the same lift and it’s on again. You?

My 40’th day skiing this winter. Some fun turns in the sun at the end of the day. Thanks for following and capturing me @paulheron24 and @steve_mothy_jarvin for the static view. I’m kinda sliding around, but hey, it was 4pm after a long day skiing and we all were just cruising
