In a pointed 'nature documentary' about humans from ASICS, the Alien star observes our increasingly sedentary, convenience-filled lives as though they were an endangered-habitat problem. If the shows that fill National Geographic, and the oeuvre of David Attenborough, are to be believed, there's a great deal of wisdom to be gleaned from observing animals in their natural habitat. Taking this insight and applying it to its customer base (humans), ASICS' latest campaign from Golin Ketchum uses the tropes of the nature documentary to put across an important message - that the comforts and conveniences of modern life are steadily reducing how much we move. Drawn from a study of 34,000 people across 31 countries, the Human Nature campaign claims we now spend 86% of our waking day not moving, with more than half of respondents failing to meet recommended physical activity guidelines. The next meeting of Music Video Preservation Society at The Mildmay Club is coming soon - on Friday, October 9th - and we’re delighted to announce that we will be celebrating the phenomenal output of directing duo Blue Source - that is Rob Leggatt and Leigh Marling - with Rob (and hopefully Leigh too) talking to MVPS host David Knight and screening some of their brilliant videos made during an incredible streak in the early Noughties. Blue Source were originally a design agency specialising in record and CD sleeves, winning numerous awards for their work, before the partners branched out into directing pop promos at the start of the 2000s. Over the next few years Rob and Leigh would direct numerous videos, for Fatboy Slim, Dirty Vegas, Spiritualised, Avalanches, New Order and more, bringing a new dimension to some of the best tunes of the era with their quirky storytelling and memorable characters, at production company Colonel Blimp, run by a previous MVPs guest @john_hassay . We’re really looking forward to revisiting Blue Source’s fantastic videos - they are wonderful and (imo) underappreciated. And there will be much more happening in the Autumn edition of MVPS in the legendary Main Hall of the Mildmay Club, including a look back to some of the iconic videos that were rocking our world 30 years ago in 1996, plus some of the best videos that have come out in 2026 - including the wonderful visuals accompanying War Child’s HELP 2. We’ll also be celebrating a significant anniversary with an iconic video shot near The Mildmay, and the restoration of a lost classic, also with Mildmay Club connections. You do not want to miss it - and tickets are selling fast. You can buy them at the Mildmay ticket office - link to that in the bio. And then a week later, on Friday October 16th, MVPS heads to Newcastle for a night dedicated to artists nominated for the 2026 Mercury Prize, being held in Newcastle a few days later - with special guests @favcolblk and @coolblockbustergirl. Tickets on sale for that show at The Tyneside Cinema website - link in the bio. #musicvideo #preservationsociety #musicvideohistory

“How does the man from Wetherspoons react when he finds himself in the afterlife?” says filmmaker @robleggatt . “That was my starting point: What happens to a geezer in heaven… or in hell?” His new short film “Meeting Mr Samuel”, co-released with @minute.shorts , runs with that telling question. It asks what happens when ordinary people are thrown into situations with cosmic proportions. “In films like this—fantasy, science fiction—they’re always scientists or f*cking theologians or whatever,” Leggatt says. “I’m a working-class lad who worked on building sites before getting into film, and I’ve known a lot of blokes like Charlie. So I thought: What happens when it’s their turn?” 🔗Stream only on WePresent + Minute Shorts. Produced by @knucklehead_hq Words: @samdiss
