Final Week! There are a few more days to visit the gallery and see Robin Roi’s marvelous show of presidential struggles, as shown through abstract portraits she created representing the first 16 commanders-in-chief. “Unpresidented” emphasizes the trials and tribulations these men dealt with in an attempt to create a new country dedicated to a concept called democracy. As Robin says, “They were far from perfect, yet they are worth remembering as the good, the bad and the ugly.” Sound familiar? Closing Party on Sunday, April 19, 5-7pm. Lets encourage Robin to get the last word in on this subject, and also come mingle with the artists from the Project Space show “Where I Have Been.” Our two shows run through April 19: “Unpresidented,” a solo show by Robin Roi “Where I Have Been,” a Project Space show by Susan Greenstein, Juliet Martin, Sohn Plenefisch Follow @440gallery here to stay up to date on our shows and activities, and read more about the work at 440gallery.com @nyhistory @nyhistoryevents @ny_history #museumofthecityofnewyork #nypl #newyorkpubliclibrary #morganlibrary @nysoclib

Here is Robin’s artwork “John Tyler 1841-1845” collage, acrylic paint on paper, 2025. Robin will be at 440 Gallery on Saturdays, 4-6pm. “Unpresidented” a show of abstract portraits by Robin Roi, tells more than one story. As Robin explains, “UNPRESIDENTED is a body of work that asks how we got here, what choices we made, and possibly where we are headed. I’ve always been interested in pictures that tell a story. These portraits—sixteen presidents from Washington to Lincoln—tell a story that is, in many ways, on the minds of a lot of us nowadays.” Robin will be at 440 Gallery on Saturdays, 4-6pm. “I needed context for the divisiveness in our current political environment. What I discovered was that we have been able to overcome this divisiveness over and over again, but I wondered why it keeps returning. And that question became Unpresidented—a body of work that asks how we got here, what choices we made, and possibly where we are headed.” —Robin Roi Our artists have a lot to share about their work, inspirations, process—join us on Zoom this Sunday, March 29 at 4:40pm for our monthly Artists Talk.
