We are excited to share our latest short film, Beyond Averages, which recently had a small festival run!

"On an ordinary night in rural Wales, Sarah’s life takes an unexpected turn when she is visited by an extra-terrestrial being tasked with observing an average member of the human species. Offended by the label of 'average,' Sarah continues her daily routine, unaware of the profound impact her seemingly ordinary life has on her observer."

Written and directed by me, Charlie Miller, during lockdown, this project was brought to life by a fantastic team who collaborated to create something truly special. We can’t wait for you to see it!

Cast:
Sarah - Rosie Sheehy
Crew:
Animation - Jake Harvey, Robyn Liebschner, Tom Mathieson, Iva Borisova, Nicky (Seymour) Alloway, Ewan Schwarz, Guilherme Milego, Tom Cushing, Leah Panigada - Carey
Animation Director - Harry Slinger-Thompson

Background Designer - Iva Borisova
Compositing - Ashley Howard

Big grins when the bride is your bezzie! I'm a lucky mare.

I believe it’s really important to have a strong relationship with your celebrant. You’re putting a huge amount of trust in them - and that’s not something to take lightly! You probably wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without trying them on (ok, unless you're a Vinted addict like me) - and you definitely wouldn't book a celebrant without learning a bit about them!

But how does it work?

💗 Send me a quick message either on here or at the email in my bio with a bit of info about yourself and your partner and your wedding date, plus any ideas you have for the big day.

💗 I’ll respond within 2-3 days with some dates and times for a preliminary 20-30 minute Zoom chat, where we can get to know each other a bit and you can work out if I’m the person you’d like to write your ceremony! Whilst this is free, and isn’t obligatory, I really recommend meeting online first before jumping headfirst into planning together.

💗 If you’d like to book me, I’ll send over a contract and ask for a 20% deposit of the overall fee to hold the date, and then we can get to the fun bit – the planning.

💗 Over the coming months, I’ll get to know you and your partner better, speak to loved ones and work to create the perfect ceremony script for you. We’ll meet up in person at least once for a chat and to share ideas, and I’ll send you up to three drafts of the script for your approval.

💗 A month before the big day, I’ll ask for the remaining 80% of the fee – and on the day, I’ll be there no matter what, ready to share and to celebrate your love story and marry you both.

💗 Afterwards, I’ll send a beautiful presentation copy of your script for you and your loved ones to look back on for years to come.

I can’t wait to hear from you!

If you’re a student, new to Bristol or just want to have a one-on-one with an industry expert, be sure to come along to the next edition of BAM (Bristol Animation Meetup) at King Street Brew House on March 27h from 6:30pm! The third of our industry professionals joining us for one-to-one slots is @robyn_eva .

Robyn is a freelance 2D animator who has worked in the industry for over a decade. In that time she has worked her way up from layout artist to animation supervisor. She even had a short stint as an assistant director, but enjoys animating the most.
She has worked on pre-school series, commercials and web content for Arthur Cox, A Productions, Funko Animation Studio, Lighthouse, Wilchild Animation and most recently Scribble Room.
Her work has included Nina Needs to Go, Battle World, Little Ellen and The Brilliant World of Tom Gates.

Key discussion areas:
- Happy to look over Showreels and portfolios
- first steps in the business of freelancing

The sessions are 15 minutes long and span from 7pm - 8:30pm. These are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so if you’d like to book a slot email bristol.animation.meetup@gmail.com

Halloween Ident - Character designs

We wanted to share our design process for our latest Halloween Ident.

Working with our director @harryslingerthompson we briefed our animators @stripeycornflakes @robyn_eva and @schwarz_art to rough out the wizard/goblin character designs. After the initial design phase, we had multiple feedback sessions where elements that the director was happy with were brought forwards into the final designs.

We always find that collaboration and clear feedback is the best way to stay creative and get the best results.

We hope you enjoy this design development.

🔥Mrs. Wordsmith - "Readiculous" has landed!🔥

After 14 months of collaboration with @mrswordsmith_ to produce a whopping 242 (yes, you read that right, 242!) animated inserts for their game, we have reached the finish line. It has been an incredibly creative and collaborative journey, with both companies working tirelessly to create a whimsical, fun-filled animated experience for all the kids playing the game.

"Readiculous" is an educational game-based app designed to help children master their reading skills.

These 242 thirty-second animations amount to just over 2 hours of content, reminiscent of early 2000s Saturday morning cartoons. We had a dedicated and fantastic team working on this project, including:

Scribble Room Team:
Producer: Charlie Miller
Animation Director: Harry Slinger-Thompson
Lead Animator: Jake Harvey
Production Coordinator: Paula Hepburn
Animation Team: Nick Seymour, Gui Milego, Tom Mathieson, Ewan Schwartz, Robyn Liebschner, Iva Borisova, Tom Cushing, Sarah Benson
Compositing & Edit: Scribble Room

The Mrs. Wordsmith team was responsible for background art, character design, storyboards, and sound.

We hope you enjoy this sizzle reel! More Mrs. Wordsmith content is on the way!

One of those evenings when life is so good you can hardly believe it's yours. Sitting on the plot with friends, barbequing plums and halloumi over the fire pit.

Hot air balloons from Ashton Court drifted lazily past and as the sun set the sky exploded into pink and orange and gold. My allotment neighbours stopped by and welcomed me back, after just a week away with covid, and I felt so very very lucky.

Simple pleasures, hey?
